Event Guide

Schedule

Times and running order subject to change throughout the day. If a competition finishes early we will go straight into the next weapon, so make sure to arrive in plenty of time. 

1:00pm Leon Paul is accessible for our event. 

1:00pm-1:15pm Check in Womens Sabre, Womens Epee and Mens Sabre. 

1:15pm : Start Women's sabre, Women's epee, and Men's sabre. 

3:00pm-3:30pm Check in Women's foil, Men's epee, and Men's foil. 

3:30pm- Start Women's foil, Men's epee, and Men's foil.

Please arrive in plenty of time as Weapons may start sooner or later! We have changed the scheule to allow all fencers to take part in all weapons they have entered. 

Check in

All participants will be required to check-in with BUCS staff at registration point, including proof of student eligibility (student ID) & British Fencing (including Introductory) membership.

Formula

All competitions will start with poules, and all fencers will be promoted to the Direct Elimination stages of their grade/weapon.

Please note that the organisers reserve the right to change the formula to assist the smooth running of the competition and to improve the experience for the participants. This may include merging of grades or genders to facilitate a desirable competition experience, or implementing unique DE brackets to ascertain winners for certain grades or genders.

Fencers who wish to enter more than one weapon are encouraged to do so, however may be asked to prioritise one weapon over another if necessary. Should a fencer be unable to compete in both weapons entered due to this, they will not be charged for the weapon they have conceded.

Referees

This event will be self-refereed by fencers in their poule/DE, however fencers are asked to bring experienced members of the club or coaches to assist at the event. Volunteers will be asked to make themselves known to Georgia Smith the event lead durring check in.

Prize giving

Prizegiving will take place at the conclusion of weapons' direct eliminations.

Medals will be awarded to 1st, 2nd, 3rd & 3rd of each weapon of result of DE's, grade and gender where there are competitors. 

Equipment

Fencers will be expected to bring their own equipment to the event, the venue and BUCS will not be able to provide any equipment to students. 

Any equipment being used by fencers should meet BUCS Fencing Guidelines. Please ensure you have long socks and appropriate fencing shoes; also, please ensure you respect the venue by changing into your indoor fencing shoes before entering the salle to avoid tracking dirt/moisture onto the venue floor.

Withdrawals

Any fencers unable to attend must inform Georgia Smith (Regional Competitions Coordinator) as soon as possible, copying in their Athletic Union to ensure they are aware of the withdrawal.

Withdrawals are not eligible for a refund on the entry fee.  

FINES FOR WITHDRAWALS

  • Withdrawals after Wednesday 01 Feb £20
  • No shows on the day: £25
  • Withdrawals prior to Saturday 04 Feb will still be charged the entry fee.

Venue Information 

Maiden Castle, The Graham Sports Centre, Stockton Rd, Durham DH1 3SE

On arrival, please report to the main reception where they will direct you to Arena B. 

There is also an on-site cafe which will be open for students to use on the day.

Durham University encourage all footwear should be clean and appropriate for indoor use.
