Staged Entry

Should the competition allow more entries a Stage 2 Entry window will open. Priority will remain with the entries received before the Stage 1 entry closing date. Entries received in the Stage 2 window and accepted into the competition, will be charged an additional 20% fee.

Entry Allowance

The event has a capacity of 400 competitors.

Institutions can request up to 30 non-guaranteed entries in both the male and female events.

Should the event reach capacity, BUCS may need to restrict the number of entries per institution.

When submitting entries on BUCS Play, competitors should be ranked in order of preference e.g 1, 2, 3, 4 and so on, before being submitted. When submitting teams on BUCS Play, the institution administrator must create the team, and individuals then enter the team.  

When entering both the C2 Sprint and C2 Classic, BOTH competitors must enter the ‘team’ on BUCS Play.

When entering both the Mixed Team Classic and the Open Team Classic, ALL competitors must enter the ‘team’ on BUCS Play.

Classic Races

  • Men’s K1 Championship (K1M - All types of K1 kayak allowed, see equipment rules below)
  • Women’s K1 Championship (K1W - All types of K1 kayak allowed, see equipment rules below)
  • Men’s C1 Championship (C1M - All types of C1 closed-cockpit 1-person canoe allowed)
  • Women’s C1 Championship (C1W - All types of C1 closed-cockpit 1-person canoe allowed)
  • Open C2 Championship (C2 - All types of C2 closed-cockpit 2-person canoe allowed)

Sprint Races

  • Men’s K1 Sprint Championship (K1Ms - All types of K1 kayak allowed, see equipment rules below)
  • Women’s K1 Sprint Championship (K1Ws - All types of K1 kayak allowed, see equipment rules below)
  • Men’s C1 Sprint Championship (C1Ms - All types of C1 closed-cockpit 1-person canoe allowed)
  • Women’s C1 Sprint Championship (C1Ws - All types of C1 closed-cockpit 1-person canoe allowed)
  • Open C2 Sprint Championship (C2s - All types of C2 closed cockpit 2-person canoe allowed.)

Relay Races

  • Open Team Championship (Classic Only) 
  • Mixed Team Championship (Classic Only)

An Open Team can be made of any 3 boats per team of any gender of person.

A Mixed Team can be made up of 3 boats per team and is open to all boats of either gender, except Men’s K1.

An individual competitor an only be entered in a maximum of ONE Open Team and ONE Mixed Team. If entering both the Open and Mixed team events, must paddle a different boat class in each. A competitor cannot paddle their K1, C1 or C2 in both an Open and a Mixed Team.

REG CAN 5.7 Overall Team - The Overall Team standings are calculated from the summed points from each class. The first 15 finishers in each class gain 20,16,14,12,11,...1 point(s) and all other finishers gain one point. These points are totalled over all the classes.

Entry Process

Individual Events

To apply K1, C1 and C2 events, all eligible competitors must follow these steps:

  1. Competitor to apply to the event on BUCS Play (Instructions on how to do this can be found here)
  2. Institution administrator approves entry (Instructions on how to do this can be found here)
  3. BUCS approves/denies entry into competition and publishes confirmed entry list

When entering both the C2 Sprint and C2 Classic, BOTH competitors must enter the ‘team’ on BUCS Play. Institution Administrators should rank C2 entries as pairs e.g. 1,1,2,2,3,3 etc so we know who is in each canoe.

Team Events 

To enter a team for this the Open or Mixed Team Classic categories:

  1. Entries will need to be submitted via the team entries section of our online entry system, BUCS Play (Instructions on how to do this can be found here)
  2. Please speak to your Institution Administrator as they will need to submit your entry.
  3. Competitors then need to apply for their respective team. (Instructions on how to do this can be found here)
  4. Institution Administrators must approve a competitor’s application before their entry is confirmed. Institution Administrators are able to give team captains approval access to help with this process (Instructions on how to do this can be found here)

K1 Classic and Sprint: all types of K1 Kayak allowed

C1 Classic and Sprint: all types of C1 closed cockpit 1 person canoe allowed

C2 Classic and Sprint: event open to both men and women, all types of C2 closed cockpit 2 person canoe allowed

Open Team Classic: can be made up of any 3 boats per team of any gender.

Mixed Team Classic: can be made up of 3 boats per team and is open to all boats of either gender except men K1

Anyone wishing to take photos or video at this event must complete the BUCS Media Accreditation Form prior to the event.

BUCS reserves the right to prohibit photography equipment being used at a BUCS event. BUCS reserves the right to request that the individual ceases to take photographs, deletes any images and, if considered necessary, leaves the venue.
