Check in closing times

All participants will be required to check-in, including proof of student eligibility (student ID) & British Fencing (including Introductory) membership. 

Check in Epee & Foil : 10.15am-10:45am  

Epee & Foil start: 11:00am 

Check in Sabre: 1:45pm- 2.15pm 

Sabre aproximate start: 2:30pm 

Please arrive promptly ready to warm up and start fencing. 

Competiton Grades

To encourage a fair and enjoyable competition, different grades are being offered in each weapon, bespoke to the BUCS Fencing Series. Please read below before making your entry;

Beginner - For fencers that are new to the sport and/or weapon

Novice - For fencers that started fencing/their weapon less than three years ago e.g. November 2019

Open – For all other fencers

Due to the number of entries into the competition beginner and novice fencers will be grouped together to compete.

Beginner & Novice Women– Epee, Foil and Saber

Beginner & Novice Men– Epee, Foil and Saber

Open Women– Epee, Foil and Saber

Open Men- Epee, Foil and Saber

NB: Competitors may choose to enter different weapons at different grades.

British Fencing Membership

Competitors do require a BF membership to register, however those without can register for a free 90-day Introduction Membership to compete.

Competiton Formula

All competitions will start with poules, and all fencers will be promoted to the Direct Elimination stages of their grade/weapon.

Please note that the organisers reserve the right to change the formula to assist the smooth running of the competition and to improve the experience for the participants. This may include merging of grades or genders to facilitate a desirable competition experience.

Referees

REFEREES

In order to run the competition, each institution will be required to supply entrants or volunteers from the club to undertake some refereeing, these individuals will need to check in with the regional competitions coordinator before the poules. These referees may be experienced members of the club or coaches, but can also be competitors themselves while in their poule fencing.

Volunteers will be on-site to guide and shadow all poules, and ensure the competition runs smoothly. British Fencing may provide opportunities in conjunction with these events to upskill students on their knowledge of refereeing. f you are interested in fencing refereeing opportunities past the event get in contact with British fencing.

Equipment

EQUIPMENT
Competitors must be properly equipped for their events and competitors clothing MUST conform to BUCS Fencing rules. BUCS cannot be held responsible for accident, loss or damage to persons or property, however caused.

Please ensure you have long socks and appropriate fencing shoes; also, please ensure you respect the venue by changing into your indoor fencing shoes before entering the salle to avoid tracking dirt/moisture onto the venue floor.

Any Equipment request would have need to have been communicated with the regional competitions coordinator prior and well in advance of the event, to discuss if hire through the venue would be possible.

Changing

There are changing facilities on site and toilets which will be accessible. The event will be taking place in the multi use salle.

Transport

Public transport can be used to reach the David Ross sport centre. Nottingham train station is a 10min drive away or you can catch a 30min tram ride to the university.

Parking

David Ross Sports Village car park is open and available for centre users for the duration of our centre opening times.

Withdrawals

Withdrawals

Any fencers unable to attend must inform Georgia Smith (Regional Competitons Coordinator) as soon as possible, copying in their Athletic Union to ensure they are aware of the withdrawal.

Withdrawals are not eligible for a refund on the entry fee.  

FINES FOR WITHDRAWALS

  • Withdrawals after 6pm Friday 4th November£20
  • No shows on the day: £50
  • Withdrawals prior to Wednesday 2nd  November will still be charged the entry fee.
