Draws and Player Changes

Entries are now closed and draws will be published on the UPC website on 2 February 2020.

Substitutions can only be made using those submitted to the reserve section on BUCS Play, which will remain open until 23:59 on Wednesday 5th February.
 

Registration

All competitors must present a photographic student ID card at the Championships. Anyone without the relevant identification will not be permitted to compete.
 

Competition Formats

BUCS Men’s Individual Championship (MIC) and BUCS Women’s Individual Championship (WIC) Single elimination

Lag for first break then alternate all the way through to the end of the match.  Winning player to report the result and return the cue ball to the competitions desk immediately on completion of the match.

No player can meet another player from the same institution in the qualifying rounds or the first round proper.  Based on rankings a number of seeds equal to one eighth of the size of the first round proper will be put straight through to the first round proper.

 

BUCS Men’s Team Championship/Trophy (MTG) 

Round-robin group stage; top two 1st teams per group progress to Team Championship (MTC) single- -elimination knock-out stages and next-best two teams per group progresses to Team Trophy (MTT) single- -elimination knock-out stages.
A match consists of two “sets” of five frames (five different players).  Lag for break in the first frame then alternate all the way through to the end of the match.  The winner is the team that wins six frames, with any incomplete frames ceasing immediately.  In the event of a five-all draw, in knock-out matches only a three-frame (three different players) playoff will take place.
No team can meet another team from the same institution in the group stage.  One 1st team per group is seeded, with the MTC playoffs bracketed accordingly (seeding is not reflected in the MTT playoffs).

BUCS Men’s Team Shield/UPC Men’s Team Vase (TSV)

Round-robin group stage; top two teams per group progress to Team Shield (MTS) single-elimination knockout stages and next-best team per group progresses to Team Vase (MTV, non-BUCS competition) single elimination knock-out stages.
A match consists of two “sets” of five frames (five different players).  Lag for break in the first frame then alternate all the way through to the end of the match.  The winner is the team that wins six frames, with any incomplete frames ceasing immediately.  In the event of a five-all draw, in knock-out matches only a three-frame (three different players) playoff will take place.

Clothing and Equipment

Competitors’ clothing must conform to the UPC dress code.

If any individual or team captain is in doubt as to the interpretation of any of these stipulations, they are advised to contact the Tournament Director prior to the event or at the earliest opportunity.

The decision of the Tournament Director shall be final as regards to whether a player conforms to the dress code.

Standard rests and spiders will be provided.  Competitors should provide their own cues; there will not be any “house cues” available.
