Venue

Food and Drink

Competitors are responsible for their own food and drink. There is a cafe within the venue. All competitors and spectators have a responsibility to keep the venue and competition areas clean and tidy, and use the bins provided.

Parking

There is on-site parking, with dedicated disabled spaces and a designated parking area for bicycles. Parking is chargeable at £10 a day

Registration

All competitors must present a photographic student ID card at registration on the day of the Championships. Any competitor without the relevant identification will not be permitted to compete. There will be spot checks with licenses carried out on the day; all competitors are reminded that a valid license must be presented upon request. Failure to do so may result in entry being denied.

Format

Novice Kumite rounds will be 1½ minutes long. Senior matches as per WKF rules will be 3 minutes for men’s matches and 2 minutes for women’s matches (with a minute added to all finalists’ matches). Although we do reserve the right to alter these timings of matches across the event.

Coaches

All coaches will have to register at the registration desk, sign a disclaimer and obtain a wristband in order to approach the Karate mat.

Licenses

  • Please note as per BUCS regulations that this event will be run in accordance with WKF rules. 
  • All competitors must hold a valid, up to date recognisable karate licence, duly completed with full and appropriate grading history.
  • For competitors that gained grades from another association, then that licence must also be presented for scrutiny. Licence checks will be carried out on the day, and Universities and competitors are reminded that a valid licence must be presented upon request; failure to do so may result in entry being denied.

Saturday

08:00 – 08:45: Registration

09:15: Coaches/ Captains/ Team Rep meeting. Compulsory for ALL INSTITUTIONS.

09:30/10:00: Kata Events (starting with team kata, concluding with kata finals)

14:30: All Team Kumite (concluding with team kumite finals)

14:45: Weigh in opens

17:00: Weigh in closes

19:00: Medal Presentations approx.

Sunday

8:30am – 09:30am: Registration and Weigh In

10:00: All Novice Individual Kumite - lightest weights first

11:30: All Senior Individual Kumite – lightest weights first

17:30: Individual Kumite Finals

18:30: Medal Presentations approx.

Changing Facilities

Male and female changing facilities will be available but once you have changed, please keep your possessions with you and do not leave them in the changing rooms, as you will not have exclusive use of the facilities.

Clothing and Equipment

Competitors must provide their own equipment. No belts or mitts will be available around the mats on the day. Gum shields, foot and shin pads and female chest protectors are compulsory. Groin guards are advised.

In addition, competitors (and coaches) must only wear insignia of their institutions (universities) on all clothing including the Gi. No insignia of style, nation, federation or association will be allowed.

Withdrawals

Withdrawals after the entry closing date must be e-mailed by the Institution Administration and e-mailed to the Olivia Hellas the BUCS Event Lead.

Withdrawals after the entry closing date will still be charged the entry fee (Reg 3.2.3).

Withdrawals after 17:00 on Wednesday 9 March 2022 will be classified as a ‘no-show’, charged the entry fee and an additional £10 fine payable by the athletic union or students’ union.

Competitors who do not withdraw, and do not register and weigh-in at the venue, will be also classified as a ‘no-show’ and will be charged the entry fee and an additional £10 fine payable by the competitor’s athletic union or students’ union.
