University of Birmingham has expanded their fitness experience to a second site, giving students more opportunity to engage with their wellness both on and off campus.

Located just outside of Birmingham City Centre, on the edge of Edgbaston campus, the Sport and Fitness Club at University of Birmingham is a facility designed with everyone in mind, from fitness beginners to elite athletes. To provide this all-inclusive fitness experience, the University partnered with Technogym as their official supplier of fitness and wellness solutions, and thanks to the success of this partnership, Birmingham have now expanded to a second site.

The success of the Sport and Fitness Club has been extraordinary, with memberships selling out shortly after its opening in 2017 and subscription continuing to remain at capacity ever since. The Club provides its members top-class facilities including Birmingham City’s first 50- metre length swimming pool, 12-court multiuse indoor arena with seating for 800 and a sports performance centre offering health assessments, rehabilitation and performance training.

An Unrivalled Fitness Experience

The Gym is located at the heart of the Sport and Fitness Club and is designed to motivate and inspire members to achieve their fitness goals. Featuring over 200 workout stations split over two floors, the gym is equipped with the latest industry innovations, including the signature Artis line, the first fully connected range of strength and cardio equipment which provides users with a completely personalised training experience. Artis also includes the innovative Unity platform, available on all cardio pieces, gives members access to engaging digital experiences, and even the ability to log into their own personal content, such as Netflix and BBC iPlayer, at any time during their workout.

Lee Costin, Health and Fitness Manager at University of Birmingham Sports and Fitness Tiverton commented, “Whatever your training focus, this facility can cater for it, with the range of equipment and expertise on offer University of Birmingham Sport and Fitness has been really popular with our students in the first couple of years”.

Increasing Engagement with Students

Embarking on a new adventure, University of Birmingham has expanded its offering to include a second site, Tiverton Gym. Originally a swimming pool built in 1906, the facility has been redeveloped to create a new fully functioning satellite gym featuring zones for free weights, cardio and resistance training.

“We wanted to be able to offer an alternative fitness option to our students, that doesn’t compromise on equipment quality, so the equipment has been specifically chosen to complement the main facility at Sport and Fitness.

We have worked in close partnership with Technogym over the last few years to help us to open two great facilities. The robust equipment and excellent service has meant we can deliver top-quality facilities for our students and campus, and the membership numbers speak for themselves!”, added Lee.

Tiverton Gym continues to provide students with industry-leading products, such as the revolutionary Skillbike, the only indoor bike with real gear shift and real-time biofeedback, enabling members to track and improve upon their performance. The facility also features Pure, a range of state-of-the-art plate loaded strength and conditioning equipment designed to maximise power and sports performance training.

“Technogym are incredibly proud of the partnership with University of Birmingham, one of the top universities in the world, and we are delighted to support them in expanding their fitness offering. giving athletes, students and the wider community the best training experience possible”, says Ben Sandham, Technogym Sales Area Manager.
