It’s not only medals that GB Students are winning in Rhine-Ruhr, we’ve also been recognised with third place in the FISU Green Delegation Award.

On Saturday July 19, on behalf of GB Students and BUCS, Chef De Mission Stew Fowlie and BUCS Sustainability Committee Leader Chris Lamb accepted the third place award for the greenest delegation.

This award reiterates BUCS’ ongoing commitment towards environmental sustainability. The achievement also coincides with Conference 2025, where the theme was 'Securing our future: Sustainable growth in HE Sport', which included a major focus on the environment.

Will Roberts, BUCS CEO, commented: “We’re immensely proud of our FISU World University Games Summer GB Students delegation on being recognised with 3rd place in this prestigious FISU award."

“Chris Lamb with the support of Sport Event Manager, Maddi Cannell has worked tirelessly on the nomination for this award, so it is fantastic to see the dedication and hard work recognised. Over the past season, the pair have been leading from the front in our organisational efforts to be more environmentally sustainable, particularly on BUCS' Environmental Working Group and strategy. Congratulations to Chris, Maddi and the GB Students delegation.”

BUCS Sustainability Committee Leader Chris Lamb added "‘It’s a great honour to be recognised for our work as a delegation on environmental sustainability."

"We are delighted to have been recognised and are excited to continue to build on this for future games, as well as continuing the strong work we have begun as an organisation in this space!"

Finally Chef De Mission for Rhine-Ruhr 2025 Stew Fowlie said "It was an honour to receive the Green Delegation Award on behalf of GB Students and BUCS today."

“We are one of the very first recipients of this award, the importance of which was emphasised by their pride of place within the final session of the FISU Conference.”

“Sustainability is both a key value of BUCS and a vital agenda in the world of sport. Taking part in the Green Delegation Awards has therefore been an excellent opportunity to develop our ways of working and actively embed a number of actions and commitments that can make a difference, both now and in the future.”

“Well done to Chris Lamb for leading out on this aspect of our work and here’s to an ever increasing focus on this theme in Chungcheong ‘27 and beyond."
