Description

Role:

To assist the development and delivery of S&C services for talented sports athletes and performance sport clubs at University of Warwick.

A critical post within the department, the role supports our talented athletes representing the University.

To provide an annual programme of S&C support and bespoke training programmes to University of Warwick athletes to allow them to excel in their chosen sports.

To work as part of a wider multidisciplinary support network, in collaboration with other practitioners, to improve the performance, and reduce the risk of injury to, all athletes engaging with the S&C services at the University of Warwick.

Duties and responsibilities:

1. Mission, Vision & Values:

• Support Warwick Sport in the delivery of the mission, vision, and objectives of Warwick Sport, including increasing participation, significantly contributing to the staff and student experience, building communities, and making a sustainable contribution.

2. Main Responsibilities:

• Plan and deliver physical development programs to several university sport clubs, primarily in group-based sessions. All programs must be underpinned by sound scientific evidence and practice-based rationale.

• To assist with S&C developments and their application in a university environment, to educate and motivate athletes and performance sports clubs in the effective use of S&C training.

• Work in a collaborative and integrated manner alongside sports coaches and sport science and sports medicine practitioners on the Team Warwick Performance.

• To keep up to date a comprehensive, indexed database, including reporting mechanisms, of all work conducted with athletes, teams, clubs and coaches.

• To work alongside the Lead Strength and Conditioning Coach and Club and Club & Performance Sport Manager to formulate and co-ordinate the S&C provision for the Team Warwick Performance Programme.

• To provide a welcoming and safe environment and exceptional customer experience for all individuals that engage in the activities of the Performance Sport team.

3. External Partnership:

• To support the Lead Strength and Conditioning Coach when required in developing and sustaining relationships and facilitating links with relevant external partners such as National Governing Bodies, UKSCA, UK Sport, and local Sports Clubs to further enhance partnerships to benefit the Warwick sports programmes.

• In absence of Lead Strength and Conditioning Coach represent the department and University at various external events and conferences at an appropriate level.

4. Quality Systems and Processes:

• To support the Lead Strength and Conditioning Coach in ensuring the monitoring and evaluation of all elements of the S&C provision.

• To support the Lead Strength and Conditioning Coach in ensuring that all programmes, activities, and events are in line with the department normal operating procedures and that relevant risk assessments have been carried out.

• To undertake regular training as and when required in job specific areas.

• To undertake any other duties and responsibilities in line with the grade of the post as directed by the Lead Strength and Conditioning Coach and Club & Performance Sport Manager.

POINTS OF NOTE:

• The opportunity to engage in additional paid S&C work with our community athletes as a Casual Strength and Conditioning Coach. For the right candidates, and qualifications permitting, there is also the possibility of completing paid work in other areas of the Warwick Sport business, e.g., personal training, massage and sports therapy and operations assistant roles.

• It may be necessary to work outside normal working hours, including evenings, weekends, and bank holidays. Also, work schedules may be subject to change at short notice due to the dynamic nature of the environment. Skills and experience One or more of the below qualifications;

Essential:

A degree in sport science or similar, or equivalent related experience Hold an industry recognized professional accreditation, or the ability to achieve within 12 months e.g. ASCC 2+ years’ experience of S&C Coaching

Proven experience of enhancing the performance of higher education, regional or national level athlete

Ability to evaluate and implement change to develop strength and conditioning programmes for individual athletes and teams

Ability to analyse a range of sports in relation to their strength and conditioning needs

Ability to interpret and analyse training and performance data to monitor individual and squad progressions

Experience of working within a multidisciplinary support network to enhance performance

Ability to multi-task and work under pressure to meet deadlines.

Willingness to undertake further training relevant to the role

Experience of using Microsoft Office and Microsoft Outlook

A higher degree level specialising in physical preparation of athletes

Previous experience of working in Higher Education

Possession of a First Aid Qualification
