As part of this vision Warwick Sport delivers performance support solutions to University student athletes through the Sports Scholarship and Team Warwick Performance programmes, and external partners such as Wasps Netball and TASS.
We are looking to offer an outstanding candidate the opportunity to join our team as our Lead Strength and Conditioning Coach, to lead the delivery of S&C service excellence provision across these programmes, and create an environment for sustained improvement and learning, across our S&C Coach Development Programme and inter-disciplinary support network. As an experienced Strength and Conditioning Coach you will be able to demonstrate extensive experience of high-quality services to performance athletes and groups, possess sound technical understanding, and the ability to engage with and motivate athletes and other practitioners. You will demonstrate an understanding of the wider higher education and University ecosystem, and bring a positive, problem-solving approach to the Warwick Sport team.
Our S&C Coach Development Programme is critical to the success of our programmes, and drives the performance team’s culture of learning and development. Crucial to your success in the role will be your experience and skills in the mentorship of developing S&C Coaches, creating and implementing programmes of practitioner development, and providing practical coaching experiences and CPD opportunities to aspiring S&C Coaches.

JOB PURPOSE:
- To lead the development and delivery of S&C services for talented sports athletes and performance sport clubs at University of Warwick, and athletes and organisations within the local community.
- A critical post within the department, the role supports our talented athletes representing the University.
- To provide an annual programme of S&C support and bespoke training programmes to the athletes, individual sports scholars and performance teams to allow them to excel in their chosen sports.
- To lead the development and delivery of commercial S&C services to athletes and organisations within the local community, and facilitate partnerships with local authorities, clubs, schools, National Governing Bodies and the UKSCA.
- To provide mentorship and development opportunities to the rest of the S&C team, including Casual S&C Coaches, and Volunteer S&C Coaches on the Warwick Sport S&C Coach Development Programme.
- To work as part of a wider multidisciplinary support network, in collaboration with other practitioners, to improve the performance, and reduce the risk of injury to, all athletes engaging with the S&C services at the University of Warwick.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Mission, Vision & Values
• Support Warwick Sport in the delivery of the mission, vision and objectives of Warwick Sport, including increasing participation, significantly contributing to the staff and student experience, building communities and making a sustainable contribution.
2. Main Responsibilities
• To be responsible for developing S&C services for the University’s Performance Sport services, through the programming and delivery of an innovative S&C provision appropriate to the range of sports, talented athletes and coaches at the University.
• To ensure delivery of high quality S&C services to talented athletes on performance programmes e.g. Sports Scholarship scheme and Team Warwick Performance.
• To take the lead with S&C developments and its application in a University environment, to educate and motivate athletes and performance sports clubs in the effective use of S&C training.
• To work alongside the physiotherapy team to enhance rehabilitation for injured athletes and develop preventative strategies.
• To manage a comprehensive, indexed database, including reporting mechanisms, of all work conducted with athletes, teams, clubs and coaches.
• To support the Performance Sport Manager and Head of Sport and Active Lifestyles, to contribute to any strategic development with S&C facilities and equipment at the University.
• To support the Performance Sport Manager, Physiotherapists and Sports Science staff to formulate and co-ordinate the S&C provision for the Sports Scholarship programme and to act as a personal mentor to Sports Scholars.
• To work alongside the Performance Sport Manager to formulate and co-ordinate the S&C provision for the Team Warwick Performance Programme and to act as a personal mentor to sports clubs to maximise their potential and sports performance.
• To provide a welcoming and safe environment and exceptional customer experience for all individuals that engage in the activities of the Performance Sport team.
3. External Partnership
• To develop and sustain relationships and facilitate links with relevant external partners such as National Governing Bodies, UKSCA, UK Sport, Coventry Sports Network and local Sports Clubs to further enhance partnerships to benefit the Warwick sports programmes.
• To represent the department and University at various external events and conferences at an appropriate level.
4. Quality Systems and Processes
• To ensure the monitoring and evaluation of all elements of the S&C provision and ensure these are reported to the Performance Sport Manager.
• To ensure that all programmes, activities and events are in line with the department normal operating procedures and that relevant risk assessments have been carried out.
• To undertake regular training as and when required in job specific areas.
• To undertake any other duties and responsibilities in line with the grade of the post as directed by the Performance Sport Manager.
5. Human Resource Management and Staff Development
• To lead, mentor and provide continual professional development opportunities for Casual S&C Coaches, and Volunteer S&C Coaches on the S&C Coach Development Programme.
• To set clear objectives and KPI’s for the S&C Coaches, linked to the Department and CCSG objectives and continually monitor and adjust performance against agreed targets.
