Description

Duties of the Post:

1. Engage new tennis players through an innovative and flexible recreational offer, as well as providing more non-BUCS competitive opportunities for students to play more often, bound together through a well-defined and accessible student-playing pathway.

2. Develop employability pathways for students studying at the University of Essex, providing on- campus opportunities to volunteer and coach through a developing community and junior tennis programme.

3. Increase revenue in line with Essex Sport business outcomes through Tennis to safeguard and provide financial sustainability This includes head coach duties for the Essex Sport community tennis programme; coaching sessions for a minimum of 8 hours a week, and providing exceptional and high standards of service delivery

4. Lead on Essex Sport and LTA initiatives such Team Challenge, Fast4, LTA Youth Tennis for Kids and other recreational opportunities.

5. Act as a key communication point between Essex Blades Tennis Club, tennis student community and sports development team.

6. To support the Sports Development Manager to produce a termly report on tennis programme performance and system for monitoring participation, competition and retention.

7. Liaise and develop strong working relationships with the Sport Centre, Students’ Union, Essex Blades Sport Clubs, Local Community Clubs, Lawn Tennis Association (LTA), Active Essex, Local Authorities and internal University departments to support tennis programmers and initiatives.

8. To establish a successful outreach programme developing and servicing local partnerships within the community, particularly schools, clubs and educational establishments.

9. To recruit, manage, mentor and monitor the performance of licensed coaches, LTA Ambassadors and volunteers within the programme.

10. In collaboration with the UECS Marketing team, assist in promotion and marketing of the tennis programme.

11. It is a requirement of the post holder to be conversant with and work to Safeguarding Children and Vulnerable Adults Policy and Procedures

12. Support the delivery of other Essex Sport projects and events, e.g. sports development activity, open days and welcome week

13. To undertake other discreet areas of responsibility and/or specific projects as may be required and agreed from time to time by the Sports Development Manager

14. Plan, prepare and deliver individual and squad training sessions for the Men’s and Women’s Tennis BUCS 1st teams

15. Attend termly athlete review meetings and occasional performance sport staff meetings

16. Assist with activities associated with the recruitment of talented male and female tennis players to the University

17. Any other duties as may be assigned from time to time by the Director of Sport or their nominee.
