UEL is seeking an enthusiastic, dedicated and professional individual to enhance and continue the development of the UEL Football programme. This is a unique opportunity to coach an ambitious performance football programme that is striving to continually improve and become the best university football programme in the UK.

Football is a Performance sport at UEL. Performance sport designation results in sports scholarships being used to attract, recruit and develop high performance players, along with the opportunity to make UEL the number one BUCS University for Football in the UK, establish UEL as the leading University programme nationally and pave a pathway that fits withing the current men’s football landscape. UEL boasts an array of Football partners and Football talent, and the coach will be a key figure in creating and enabling greater collaboration and development.

The role will work closely with our footballing partners to ensure its scholarship athletes can meet both club and University of East London footballing commitments.

The successful applicant will be expected to coach our Men’s 1st team (including individual player development sessions). They will also oversee the overall coaching provision to our University teams (3 Men’s teams, assistants and volunteers) as well as directly supporting the recruitment of future Football players to UEL. The role will also support with supporting the Dual Career players who may be playing full time at clubs locally and nationally.

The coaching role will combine team/individual coaching, recruitment activity and student athlete management throughout the week that will involve daytime and evening sessions with some weekend work.

Details will be agreed jointly between the High Performance Sport Manager, players, the coach and the club committee.

Wages: 1 Year Self Employed contract £15000 per annum

A minimum of 2.5 days in office/work days per week – Flexible administration/recruitment Hours plus evening training (Monday), match day (Wednesday) and small group sessions based on player availability.

Payment via invoice as per UEL financial regulations of 12 equal amounts

Purchase order period 1st August 2022 – 31st July 2023

Job Purpose:

- Provide coaching, direction and professional guidance to the UEL Football club (Men) in line with the East London Sport High Performance Strategy Develop, monitor and support Football players to a professional standard of play Recruitment of future players to the University of East London.

- Manage player workload between the University of East London scholarship programme and external club

- Proactively work with our existing Football partners and assist with developing new partnerships to secure mutually beneficial working relationships

Main Duties and Responsibilities:

- Head coach of the UEL Football Club (Men’s) with specific, year round responsibility for the UEL men’s 1st team including a full preseason, in season and postseason programme of delivery. This role is also responsible for recruiting and managing the assistant coach and 2nd Team coaches

- Assist in the planning and implementation of a long term Football development plan for UEL.

- Lead, track and report on the individual development of Football players athletically and academically in conjunction with the wider UEL High Performance Sport Team.

- Manage UEL Football teams competing in BUCS, including the recruitment, direction and monitoring of coaching staff and assisting the Sports Development Unit in organising BUCS participation.

- In conjunction with the High Performance Sport Team identify, recruit and support talented Football players in line with the High Performance Sport Strategy and allocated sport scholarship budget against specific performance criteria.

- Support the East London Sport Football club committee in organisation, coordination, communication and planning.

- To proactively develop our relationship with schools, colleges and partner clubs.

- To work closely with clubs locally who have University of East London scholarship athletes playing for them to balance playing commitments and player workload.

- Work proactively alongside the UEL High Performance support team, including other coaches, S&C coaches, video analysts, nutritionists, physiotherapists, etc. to ensure optimum development of players in the high performance programme
