Ours is an extraordinary educational environment and because we specialise in identifying and developing individual potential, you can be confident you'll receive all the help and encouragement you need to build a rewarding career with lots of opportunities to progress.
Our combined higher and further education offering is spread over campuses in Derby, Buxton, Leek and Chesterfield and we have some of the best university facilities in the UK, investing more than £200 million in facilities in the last 10 years. We achieve outstanding results for our teaching and research and with more than 34,000 people choosing to study with us every year, we depend on the dedication of a team of 2,200 academic and professional services staff.
Financially strong and seriously ambitious we offer our employees a family-friendly, rewarding career with lots of opportunities to progress. About the role We are Serious about Sport at Derby, we have recently refreshed our focus and ambitions for the future, aligned to the University’s Strategic Framework.
We are looking for a new member of the team, who can make an effective contribution to the new sports framework and a tangible difference to our sporting offer.
Sport at Derby is delivered through a collaborative approach. Our student teams compete under the ‘Team Derby’ banner against other Universities in British Universities and Colleges Sport and other national competitions. The Sports Centre is managed by Everyone Active; The Union of Students manage the Student Club’s and the Sport and Exercise team manage the academic programmes.
Our role, as the Sport & Activity Team, is to deliver the objectives of the Sport Framework, align and engage all stakeholders to create a high quality, student focussed sport and activity experience.
A good communicator, who is innovative and has a passion for sport are key attributes to be successful in this role.
The key elements of your role will be to:
- Assist the delivery of agreed projects, supporting the recruitment of officials, casual staff, and volunteers.
- Supporting the promotion, sign up and delivery of events and activities and undertaking effective evaluations to support continuous improvement.
- Support all competing sports scholars and performance teams in British Universities and Colleges Sport competitions; attending matches; events and competitions as required.
- Support the coordination and delivery of the Talented Athlete Scholarship Scheme.
- Support the Performance Sport Officer with the marketing, promotion, and recruitment of sports scholars.
- Support the creation of regular and timely content via multiple media platforms to showcase sporting success and raise the profile of sport.
Our programmes are not delivered Monday to Friday 9-5, so we are looking for someone who can work evenings and weekends as required. As a student facing service, we do require our team to be in the office but there are opportunities to work flexibly on occasion.
The day-to-day role of the Sports Co-ordinator will encounter varied opportunities to support, co-ordinate and deliver projects across sport development, sports marketing, and performance sport. No day will be the same and you will be with colleagues in the sport team, on your own and with colleagues across the University and broader stakeholders so we are looking for people who can build effective relationships.
We are looking to encourage more students to take part in sport and activity, so an understanding of the barriers and challenges faced by students is an advantage, if you have the answer to breaking these down – even better!
We are looking for people who can work confidently on their own, you will have a high level of freedom over how you deliver your objectives, and we encourage innovation in our programmes and services, so you may have strong passion for sport but a qualification from another area – we still encourage you to apply.
We value a diverse workforce and actively encourage people to apply from under-represented groups. Please note that unfortunately, this role will not attract sufficient points to obtain a sponsored Skilled Worker visa under the UK Visas & Immigration points-based immigration system; however, applications are welcome from candidates who do not currently have the right to work in the UK, but who would be eligible to obtain a valid visa via another route. Please consult the Home office website for further information.
We are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and vulnerable adults and expect everyone who works for us to also share this commitment and to treat people with courtesy and respect.
