Imperial College London’s flagship Sports Centre, Ethos, is based at its main South Kensington campus. This facility serves Imperial students and staff as well the local community and includes a sports hall, climbing wall, swimming pool, squash courts, state-of-the-art-fitness gym, exercise studio and sports therapy rooms. Move Imperial is looking for a proactive and enthusiastic Recreation Assistant who can deal with all aspects of day-to-day operations of the sports centre facilities including wet and dry sites, sports development programmes, and provide a high level of customer service.
The post offers a unique opportunity for the successful candidate to bring their own expertise, skills, ideas and innovations to the facility. The post holder will carry out life-guarding duties and ensure that sports facilities are prepared on time for all bookings, whilst ensuring a high level of cleanliness is maintained at all times.
There will be opportunities to carry out instructional or coaching courses, dependent on qualifications and experience. Please note we are open to either full or part time applicants for this role.
The posts are offered on a 5 out of 7 day contract and will work as part of a rota system. We have some flexibility on the part time role(s) to offer a more fixed rota.

Duties and responsibilities:
To ensure the safety of users and be totally responsible when on poolside duty for the lifeguarding of the 25-metre swimming pool in accordance with the Health and Safety Executive, local operating procedures and other guidelines on the safe management of swimming pools.
To ensure the safety of all users on poolside and surrounding areas and be totally responsible for the supervision, control, behaviour and safety of students, staff and members of the public while using the pool and ancillary wetside facilities.
To ensure users comply with bye-laws, general practice and statutory legislation for the pool and surrounding ancillary facilities.
To carry out pool water tests and maintain a written record of results, immediately reporting deviations from set standards to the Duty Manager.
To carry out regular checks of all poolside and rescue equipment and report immediately any defects to the Duty Manager.
To carry out instructional or coaching courses in line with qualifications and experience and the needs of the Centre.
To complete set up and take down of sports equipment and carry out equipment safety checks, reporting immediately any defects to the Duty Manager.
To carry out climbing wall inductions and equipment safety checks in line with appropriate training and experience, reporting immediately any defects to the Duty Manager.
Essential requirements:
Current/Valid National Pool Lifeguard Qualification or equivalent
Knowledge of swimming pool operations
Knowledge of Health & Safety Legislation

Grade: Operational Services Level 1b
Type of Contract: 1 x Full Time, Open-Ended position (with option of part-time contract) 37 hours per week, 5 days out of 7 on a rota shift pattern. Shift patterns will comprise, early, mid and late shifts. The earliest start is 06:30 and the latest a shift will finish is 22:30
