Do you have a degree in marketing, sport/leisure or communication and proven experience of working in a marketing or sales based organisation within sport and leisure or higher education? Are you looking for a challenging role in an environment that is open, vibrant and welcomes new ideas? Then join the University of East London as a Marketing and Communications Manager for East London Sport.

East London Sport offers competitive sporting opportunities across 16 different sports for over 400 students and provides High Performance Support for 160 elite athletes including ex and current professionals, Olympic and Paralympic athletes.

East London Sport also has a drive and focus to support student and staff wellbeing through its Move East London Programme, which offers the opportunity to be active with friends and colleagues outside of traditional sports competition.

Many of our activities take place at SportsDock – the University’s thriving multi-use sports complex with a gym, conditioning centre, outdoor 5-a-side pitches and dance studio based at our Royal Docks site.

And, right now, we’re looking for a well-organised individual with a flair for marketing and sales, to manage and coordinate our marketing and communications activities, both internally and externally. A great opportunity to manage campaigns at a strategic, tactical and operational level, you’ll also be responsible for managing the East London Sport/SportsDock marketing budget and leading the development and implementation of a marketing plan for both. One day you might be involved in marketing and promotional activities directed at getting students active, and the next, planning a public members sales campaign for SportsDock gym memberships. Line managing a Sales and Marketing Officer, producing hard copy and digital marketing requirements, directing a communications programme and student recruitment strategy and liaising with external businesses to maximise relationships for commercial and promotional benefits – all are aspects of this high profile role.

To succeed, you’ll need to be used to delivering sales, memberships schemes and retention initiatives within sport and leisure facilities. You will also need to be open to thinking creatively when it comes to connecting and engaging with a diverse student population. Ideally you would have significant experience of developing and managing campaigns on a strategic, operational and tactical level, as well as leading, managing and developing a team. Being adept at planning, prioritising and organising work or resources to achieve agreed objectives within a sport and leisure or higher education context, while developing and managing a marketing and communications plan are essential skills for this role. You also have the communication skills it takes to liaise effectively with a range of internal and external stakeholders and are great at multi-tasking and adhering to strict deadlines, keeping accurate data and records up-to-date and delivering reports and analysis on marketing activities.

A successful external candidate for this position would be employed by UEL Professional Services Ltd, a wholly owned subsidiary of UEL. Employees of UEL Professional Services Ltd work alongside UEL colleagues in delivery of UEL’s mission, and UEL Professional Services Ltd will adopt UEL HR policies and procedures in full. Further detail regarding employment benefits can be found at the employee benefits section of our recruitment pages.

The East London Sport team is based at UEL’s Docklands campus, and will require the successful candidate to work a minimum of 3 days a week on site.

CVs without a completed application form will not be accepted.

At UEL we are committed to working together to build a community which values diversity in both our staff and student populations, is representative and inclusive, enabling all to progress and thrive.
