What is social softball ?
Our LUSL Social Softball Tournament is for anyone wanting to get involved in a social team sport, even if they are new to Softball!
Teams are not eligible to field students who have been involved in the BUCS Softball National Championships at Farnham Park on 18-19 March 2023.
Competition Requirements
We are proud to adopt the BaseballSoftballUK Inclusive Softball Rules. For full details on this please read the guidance here.
TEAMS: Teams should field 10 players with a maximum of five of one gender. If teams lack five female players, a run penalty applies of plus one run per inning per female to the opposition. Teams of more than six male players are not allowed. The extra male player will have to field at right field and bat at the bottom of the order.
Rules and Regulations
We will be following the BUCS Softball Rules & Regulations, and wish to highlight the following:
CURRENT STUDENTS ONLY: All players must be able to produce a valid student ID for their institution. Players should be prepared to show ID at the request of umpires and event organisers to prove eligibility. Teams found fielding ineligible players will be disqualified.
SCOREKEEPING: All teams are responsible for their own scorekeeping and should agree with each other after each completed inning.
WEATHER: If bad weather affects the tournament, the organisers reserve the right to reformat.
PLAYERS UNDER THE INFLUENCE: Any player who, in the Tournament Control’s judgement, is incapable of playing safely due to the consumption of alcohol or drugs will be first warned, and then ejected. Any player ejected from a game shall be banned from subsequent games.
PRESENTATION: The presentation will take place on the field upon the conclusion of the tournament.
We will be using training balls so helmets will not be nessary for the event.

- Please speak to your IA as they will need to submit your entry.
- IA’s must select a Team Captain before entries close. (Instructions on how to do this can be found here).
- Competitors then need to apply for their respective team. (Instructions on how to do this can be found here).
- IA’s or Captains then need to add the competitors who have applied for the team into the squad. (Instructions on how to do this can be found here).
