Sailing

The BUCS Sailing programme offers a wide range of sailing opportunities and competitions. The programme is comprised of a Fleet Racing Championships, Match Racing Championships, Team Racing Championships and Yachting Championships, all run on behalf of BUCS by the British Universities Sailing Association (BUSA).

The Fleet Racing Championships typically has over 100 boats competing across four fleets, with representatives from over 16 universities.

The Yacht Racing Championships take place over 4 days and are currently held at Gunwharf Quays, Portsmouth. Over 200 sailors compete in Sunsail F40s, with 24 teams battling it out to be crowned champions.

The Match Racing Championships are hosted at the Weymouth & Portland National Sailing Academy.  Competitors race for 4 days on Portland Harbour in the RYA’s fleet of Elliot 6m yachts.

Over 25 teams compete in the BUCS Team Racing Championship finals. To qualify for the finals, they must navigate their way successfully through Regional Qualifiers and Playoffs.

Sailing is part of the BUCS international programme and is competed at as part of the World University Championships in the format of Match Racing.

The World University Championships are for national representative teams (GB & NI) and are held every two years in various countries across the world.
