Get Involved

The RFU is offering several new and innovative opportunities to engage new people in playing Rugby.

O2 Touch

O2 Touch is a leading adult participation programme that is introducing new players to try a minimal contact, inclusive version of the game and inspiring former players to return to a sport they love. With an emphasis on social fitness, music and pitch up and play activity O2 Touch breaks down barriers to participation and is growing playing opportunities in local communities.

In a nutshell the O2 Touch offer is a simple one. A rolling year to year programme where we look to provide:

- Kit for volunteers

- Equipment

- Marketing support

- Ongoing training opportunities

In exchange centres are committed to:

- Recruiting a volunteer team comprised of Operators (coaches/activators) and Ambassadors (individuals who are specifically tasked with promoting your sessions).

- Running activity throughout the term (as appropriate).

- Reporting activity through the O2 Touch website and app.

O2 Touch is a fun and friendly environment for both men and women of all abilities to get involved in touch rugby. Whether it’s about horning your fitness or having a great time exercising as a group, this is social fitness at its best.

XRugby7s

XRugby7s is an innovative new format of rugby, which is designed to facilitate accessible delivery. There is no longer a need for posts to play rugby, meaning this game can be played on any grass or compliant artificial grass space.

XRugby7s is a more consumable for the modern student: smaller pitch, quicker game and fewer players. The sessions can be delivered in a range of ways, with the underlying theme of reduced time commitment, health benefits, and the opportunity to play a more sociable form of rugby.

All the kit and equipment required will be provided, along with support for students who would champion the programme locally. There is a wealth of marketing resources and guidance available, to engage with potential players and drive interest to sessions. There are also many opportunities for students to take responsibility to organise this programme, ranging from marketing, operations, coaching and refereeing.

XRugby7s is a way to engage with a new audience via bespoke, flexible delivery packages; from intra-mural leagues, to festivals or fitting into any activity programme currently in place at your institute.
