BUCS Physical Activity Excellence Award - 2018

Physical Activity Excellence Award - Guidance

Following the success of the first 10 universities to receive the Physical Activity Excellence Award, BUCS is opening Expressions of Interest for 2019.

The purpose of the award is to:

-   Reward institutions who can demonstrate commitment and provision towards tackling inactivity

-   Create a good practice report for sharing across the sector

-   Develop a toolkit for institutions to use to increase physical activity delivery

-   Drive a culture of collaborative working at institutional, local, and national level

-   Evidence the impact of the HE sector across the wider physical activity landscape

-   Increase awareness of the role that the HE sector has on promoting positive lifestyle behaviour

-   Have a recognised award that encompasses work from the Physical Activity & Health board, Social & Recreational Sport steering group and the workforce steering group.

BUCS hopes that the award will create a platform to not only highlight the positive drive towards helping more students and staff become active, but also showcase to senior leaders the positive steps that are beinb taken to increase emotional well-being, retention and a sense of community (as evidenced in the BASS 2017 findings). In turn, this will help evidence how your physical activity initiatives, at this early intervention stage, help towards releasing the burden of other services on campus.
The kite mark award gives institutions the opportunity to be recognised for their efforts towards creating an active campus, where students and staff have the support and opportunities to live an active lifestyle, with a focus on reducing boundaries.

The award focuses on four main areas of evidencing and showing impact of; Strategy and Planning, Insight & Research, Partnerships & Collaboration and Implementation & Delivery. To assess these BUCS are continuing to outsource the assessment of the award to external provider Leisurenet.
