Round 12

Rucking Around The Christmas Tree: Exeter Take the Top heading into the Festive break

The final week of BUCS Super Rugby before going into the Christmas break left the fans on edge after a huge win for Exeter vs last week’s table toppers Cardiff Met. This week of action saw 5 bonus point wins for Exeter, Hartpury, Durham, Leeds Beckett and Northumbria, and a total of 31 try’s scored between them.

Match 1: Beckett Get the Better of Bath

Neck and neck going into the break, Beckett were hanging on by the skin of their teeth, 10-8. However, despite Bath’s best efforts, they couldn’t keep up with Beckett’s pace, allowing them to score two try’s on the trot before Bath responded. Regaining their momentum, Beckett confirmed their bonus-point win with two tries from Charlie Venables and Xavier Valentine.

Match 2: Exeter Edge into 1st after Top of the Table Battle

In a bid to become top of the table heading into the Christmas break, last season’s domestic champions Exeter came out on top after a close 28-22 win. Exeter were first to score in the 7th minute, but shortly afterwards lost their lead by conceding a converted try and a penalty. Bouncing back from their wakeup call, Exeter worked their magic to secure two last minute try’s before heading in to the changing rooms at half time (21-10). With the final whistle in sight, Met had the crowd on the edge of their seats with a 76th minute try, but despite their best efforts, Exeter held out till the end, winning 28-22.

Match 3: 9 Try’s Scored after Hartpury show Cardiff How it is Done

Despite the score line, Cardiff found themselves 6-0 up 25 minutes into the game. After a high tackle which resulted in a yellow card for Cardiff, Hartpury found their momentum, scoring three out of their 9 try’s before the break. The second half was try-galore, Hartpury showcasing why they were last year’s Championship winners, scoring another 6 tries and securing their bonus-point win.

Try’s scored by Ervin Muric (x3), Aquile Smith (x2), Ben Kellard, Elias Caven, Harry Chamberlain and Robbie Smith.

Match 4: Durham Dominate As Loughborough Lose Out Again

Durham climbed into 4th going into the Christmas break by winning away at Loughborough on Wednesday evening. 10-6 at half time, Durham pulled away after Myles Rawstron-Rudd, Jamie Adamson and Matt Welsh thought they had put the game to bed before Loughborough scored their first try with 8 minutes left on the clock. In retaliation, Jack Hedley scored an intercepted try, punishing Loughborough’s late efforts.

Match 5: Northumbria Nail Nottingham Trent, 41-5

Northumbria will go into the Christmas break having secured a bonus-point win against Nottingham Trent under the lights on Wednesday evening.

After a phenomenal first half, try socrers Oli Robinson, George Bordill, Charlie Parkhouse (x2) and Joe Pickering, put Northumbria ahead 29-0. Josh Rudling and Yaree Fantini joined them in the second half, before Trent dotted down for the first time in the game, to make the final score 41-5.
