Hockey in Universities Conference 2019

Hockey in Universities Conference 2019

Date: Friday 14th June 2019

Venue: Lee Valley Hockey Centre, Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park, London

Time: Provisional 11:00am-9:30pm

 Registration links below

Last year's 4th annual Hockey in Universities Conference was a huge success, engaging nearly 200 university staff, coaches and student club committee leaders across a day of presentations and activity alongside some high-quality international hockey matches.

Building on this success, we are delighted to announce that the 2019 Conference will be taking place on Friday 14th June 2019 at the Lee Valley Hockey Centre in the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park, London.

Furthermore, we are excited to announce that this venue and day have been chosen to coincide with the FIH Pro League Game where GB Men will play the Netherlands. Attendance to the Conference gets you a ticket to this game as part of the day.

The Student Conference

Provisional Conference Times: 11:00 - 17:30
FIH Pro League - GB v Netherlands: 19:30

This event is jointly organised by England Hockey and the BUCS Hockey SAG. There are a number of aims for the day including:

To develop and support your plans for the year ahead, with support from current and ex-club leaders on the key areas to understand and be aware of in relation to hockey in the HE sector

- To network with your fellow captains on both a regional basis, to discuss regional support and resources, and on a club-size basis to learn from your peers and share best practice and initiatives

- To hear about the ongoing work in developing University Hockey across the university sector, and how you can access support and resources to develop your club experience

- To update you on initiatives to increase the University Hockey workforce, especially umpires and coaches

A full provisional programme for the day is being developed and will be uploaded here in due course.

N.B. - One of the sessions is going to be some short case study presentations from the sector of examples of success over the last season. If you have a particular project or initiative that you'd like to present, please contact Alicia Lauckner as soon as possible!

All UK Universities are invited to send up to two students to the Conference - one representing Women's hockey and one for Men's hockey. These students should ideally be the incoming club committee leaders, as the training is focused on supporting them to lead their club throughout the year.

If you do not yet know who your student representatives will be but intend to send someone, please register your club for a place as soon as possible and send Alicia Lauckner the confirmed name once known.

Please complete the registration link below for each attendee (if you have more than one)

The University Hockey Coach Conference

Provisional Conference Times: 11:00 - 17:30
FIH Pro League - GB v Netherlands19:30

This strand of the Conference is aimed at coaches of all abilities from the university hockey sector, and is intended to have a selection of content across both university hockey strategy and hockey coaching delivery.

A full provisional schedule for this element of the Conference will be uploaded here in the near future.

Due to venue restrictions, there is currently a limit of one university hockey coach per university hockey club. Please email Alicia Lauckner if you'd like to request more, and we will accommodate your requests where possible, depending on registration numbers.

N.B. Owing to the GB Elite Development Programme day on the 6th June, the University Hockey Conference will have less of a performance emphasis than previous years. We would therefore encourage any institutions with performance coaches attending the EDP day on the 6th June to consider utilising this opportunity to develop another coach from your institution.

For any more information about the Conference as a whole, please email Alicia Lauckner at BUCS, or call 0207 633 5080. Please note that space is limited and delegate places will be allocated on a first come first served basis.
