LAC i The BUCS Lacrosse Championships shall be conducted in accordance with the following BUCS sport specific regulations, the BUCS general regulations, and the FIL Rules.

LAC ii In the event that these regulations contradict the BUCS general regulations, these BUCS sport specific regulations will supersede, unless specifically stated otherwise.

LAC iii In the event that these regulations contradict those of the FIL Rules, these BUCS sport specific regulations will supersede, unless specifically stated otherwise.


*Please note that BUCS will NOT be adopting the recent FIL rule changes for Women’s Lacrosse for the 2018-19 season and for any areas in which these rules were changed, the previous rules should be followed. The FIL changes will be reviewed and considered for application for the 2019-20 BUCS season.*

LAC 1 Affiliations All institutions must affiliate with their National Governing Body by the deadline stated in the BUCS Sport Specific Affiliations Document. Failure to do so will lead to sanctions as outlined in the BUCS Sport Specific Affiliations Document and possibly further disciplinary action.

LAC 2 There shall be separate Team Championships for Men and Women. The programme for each Championships shall include leagues and knockout competitions as per BUCS general regulations, Appendix 1 (‘BUCS Competition Offer and Associated BUCS Points’) and Appendix 10 (‘BUCS Promotion, Relegation and Knockout Information’).

LAC 3 Minimum number of players for a fixture to start The minimum number of players per team required for a fixture to start will be 7 for Men’s teams and 8 for Women’s teams.

LAC 4 Match officials Match officials should be appointed as per Appendix 5 (‘BUCS Match Officials Requirements’).

LAC 4.1 All Men’s and Women’s teams are required to submit to BUCS the names of at least 2 qualified officials within their club who are able to officiate in the absence of neutral officials by the deadline stated in the BUCS Sport Specific Affiliations Document. Failure to do so will lead to sanctions as outlined in the BUCS Sport Specific Affiliations Document and possibly further disciplinary action.

LAC 5 Ties in knockout matches

LAC 5.1 Men’s In the event of a tie at the end of a match, 2 periods of extra time of 5 minutes each way shall be played. The 2 periods will be played in full, regardless of whether or not goals are scored. If the scores are still level, then 5 minute periods of sudden death will be played with the first team to score being the winners. The teams will change ends after each sudden death period.

LAC 5.2 Women’s In the event of a tie at the end of a match, 2 periods of extra time of 4 minutes each way (with stopped clock) shall be played. The 2 periods will be played in full, regardless of whether or not goals are scored. If the scores are still level, then 4 minute periods of sudden death (with stopped clock) will be played with the first team to score being the winners. The teams will change ends after each sudden death period

LAC 6 Ties in league matches A tie in league matches can occur. If at the end of normal time the score is tied then the match will be counted as a draw and each team will receive 1 point.

LAC 7 Squad size The maximum squad size shall be 23 players for Men’s teams and 18 players for Women’s teams.

LAC 8 Substitutes Substitutes shall be used in accordance with the FIL Rules.

LAC 9 Pitch size and markings Pitches must be marked to the minimum dimensions as outlined in the FIL Rules for the specific gender competition. Unified pitch markings to be used if shared between both codes.

LAC 10 Additional Premier League/Championship specific requirements

LAC 10.1 Facilities should be of an appropriate quality for Premier League/Championship matches and should comply with National Governing Body regulations for matches of this standard.

LAC 11 Additional Women’s Lacrosse specific requirements

LAC 11.1 It is recommended that all players should wear protective and appropriate eye goggles.
