Last year's 2nd annual Hockey in Universities Conference was a huge success, engaging nearly 200 university staff, coaches and student club committee leaders across a day of presentations and activity alongside some high-quality international hockey matches.

Building on this success, we are delighted to announce that the 2017 Conference will be taking place on Monday 19th June at the Lee Valley Hockey Centre in the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park, London.

Furthermore, we are excited to announce that this venue and day have been chosen to coincide with the Men's World League Hockey Semi Finals, with four international hockey fixtures taking place throughout the day - including the teams of Argentina, India, Pakistan and Korea. Attendance to the Conference gets you into these games as part of the day, particularly the Korean and Argentinian games later in the day.

New Announcement!: As part of the ever-strengthening relationship between BUCS and England Hockey, we have now secured a great ticket deal for students for the Hockey World League Semi Finals. Every student leader who attends the Conference will get access to 10 free weekday tickets for their club, as well as a code to allow their club members to get £5 tickets to any weekday session and 50% off sessions on the finals weekend. Further information will be provided when you sign-up to the event.

There are three separate strands to the conference. The primary strand, lasting the whole day, is focused on incoming new student club committee leaders and empowering you to be the best you can be as you take over the running of your club for the forthcoming season. The secondary strands focus on senior managers from the University sport sector and university hockey club coaches. More detailed information about each section, plus the sign-up link, is outlined separately below.

The Student Conference

This event is jointly organised by England Hockey and the BUCS Hockey SAG, and the programme has expanded greatly from last year to cover more topics and in more depth. There are a number of aims for the day including:

To develop and support your plans for the year ahead, with support from current and ex-club leaders on the key areas to understand and be aware of in relation to hockey in the HE sector

- To network with your fellow captains on both a regional basis, to discuss regional support and resources, and on a club-size basis to learn from your peers and share best practice and initiatives

- To hear about the ongoing work in developing Small Sided Hockey, and how the format could support your club in terms of Fresher experience, growing membership, increasing finances and developing players

- To update you on initiatives to increase the University Hockey workforce, especially umpires and coaches

A full provisional programme for the day is now available here

You will also gain access to the details of the student ticket offer for your club, as outlined above!

N.B. - One of the sessions is going to be some short case study presentations from the sector of examples of success over the last season. If you have a particular project or initiative that you'd like to present, please contact Greg Sturge as soon as possible!

All UK Universities are invited to send up to two students to the Conference - one representing Women's hockey and one for Men's hockey. These students should ideally be the incoming club committee leaders, as the training is focused on supporting them to lead their club throughout the year. Student's attending should sign up using the link below. If you do not yet know who your student representative will be but intend to send one, please register your club for a place as soon as possible and send Greg Sturge the confirmed name once known.

Booking for this Conference is now closed!

Contact Greg Sturge if you have any questions.

Registration closed 5pm, Monday 29th May 2017

The Senior Sport Manger and University Hockey Coach Conferences

This strand of the Conference will have a selection of content across both university hockey and some wider current university sport topics, with the agenda due to be released by Thursday 13th April. There will be some separate sessions for Senior Managers/Coaches, and some joint content around wider hockey issues.

Both elements will provide a great opportunity to network at the home of Great British hockey whilst watching high-quality international fixtures.

A full provisional schedule for Senior Managers is now available here

A partial provisional schedule for Coaches is now available here

N.B. - Club Coaches - there is still time and space to shape some coach-specific content for the day. When you sign-up using the link below, there is a box to provide your thoughts as to what you would find interesting/benefit from. Alternatively, you can email Greg Sturge directly.
N.B. - Performance Coaches - there will be a session on the GB Development Pathway led by Ed Barney, which will be invite-only for those engaged in the programme. Please still sign-up to the wider Conference here if you are attending, and we will contact you in due course about this session.

There is a limit of one senior staff member per institution (please email Greg Sturge if you'd like to request more) and one hockey coach per University hockey club (male and female sides of the club can be counted separately).
