BUCS Conference 2018 - UWE

BUCS Conference 2018 - University of the West of England (UWE)

BUCS is pleased to announce that Conference 2018 will be hosted at the University of the West of England (UWE).

The event which brings together staff and student officers from BUCS’ 160 member institutions, will be hosted at UWE’s Frenchay Campus from Tuesday 10 – Friday 13 July 2018.

The Frenchay Campus is the biggest campus at UWE and is located approximately four miles outside Bristol City Centre. Conference delivery will take place within the Exhibition and Conference Centre on campus, providing BUCS with a professional, high quality, flexible space to create and deliver an inspiring Conference for members.

Delegates will be staying in the £80million Student Village on campus, with the Student Union entertainment spaces and campus facilities providing delegates with access to evening social activities. All Conference attendees will also have access to the facilities within UWE’s £5.5 million Centre for Sport, ensuring that delegates can remain active throughout their BUCS Conference experience.

With the theme of this year’s BUCS Conference confirmed as 'The Best University Sport Experience in the World', delegates can expect a comprehensive programme of speakers and workshops aimed at providing CPD opportunities, networking and developing the sector as a whole.

As part of Conference, UWE will also play host to the BUCS Awards Dinner on the evening of Thursday 12 July 2018 – celebrating all that is great about university sport and recognising the success of student athletes, clubs, delivery programmes, the university workforce and member institutions throughout the 2017/18 academic year.

Professor Steve West, Vice-Chancellor at UWE, shared his thoughts on the university hosting BUCS Conference:

“We are delighted to have been chosen to host BUCS Conference for 2018. Bristol is one of the UK’s most diverse and vibrant cities and UWE, we hope you will agree, is an excellent location for Conference. We will be housing Conference within our established Exhibition and Conference Centre (ECC) which is located on our Frenchay Campus and is one of the largest of its kind in the South West.

“We will be working with BUCS in order to provide you with the best possible experience at Conference this year and who knows we might even be watching a World Cup Semi Final or two together. We look forward very much to welcoming you to the University of the West of England in July”

Vince Mayne, CEO at BUCS, commented on UWE being selected as the host venue:

“BUCS is delighted to be taking our annual conference to the University of the West of England (UWE). UWE has made significant investment in its campus infrastructure and we look forward to utilising the superb conference and sporting facilities.

“The opportunity to work with the team at UWE is very exciting and we’re sure that together we can deliver a great conference experience for our members.”

Delegate Bookings for BUCS Conference 2018 will open towards the end of April, with the information being published on the BUCS website.
