International FAQs

• My University didn’t finish in the Top 4 in BUCS – can we still enter the European EUSA ’tournament winners’events? Only top-4 national finishers in BUCS qualify to enter EUSA. BUCS will sanction all qualifying Universities that wish to compete in each sport/ category. There are other European competitions without qualification requirements, such as the SELL Games

 What is the difference between EUSA and FISU competition?

• I am not British but study at a BUCS University – can I represent Great Britain at the World University Games/ Championships? Only UK-passport holders can represent GB & Northern Ireland, but you can potentially represent your own country. Contact details for other countries version of BUCS can be seen here

• How do I apply for selection for the Great Britain teams at the World University Games/ Championships?Nomination and selection details are available on the BUCS website, together with performance standards.

• What is the athlete personal contribution for, and what does it cover? The Athlete PC is  a set contribution to event costs that typically include : entry, flights, medical and physiotherapy support, travel visas, team management and administration, participation costs (accommodation and catering), competition kit, teamwear, and insurance. The majority of costs for World University Games/ Championships are met by BUCS and the National Governing Bodies of sport in the UK.

• Can my University team enter the World University Games/ Championships? Entries are by nation (Great Britain & Northern Ireland), rather than a single University. BUCS will make an entry in conjunction with the Great Britain national governing body where the event and eligible students tie-in with the performance pathway in that sport

• BUCS and the National Governing Body for my sport are not progressing an entry for the World University Games/ Championships – can I submit my own entry? Entries can only be made by BUCS, and entries will by prioritised against available resources and additional considerations including but not limited to : national performance agenda, BUCS domestic sporting programmes, previous entry record, participant numbers and relative performance levels
