Higher Education Basketball Ambassador programme

Universities Expression of Interest for 2017/2018 now open

Basketball HEBA 2The Basketball Foundation has been delivering the HE Basketball Ambassador (HEBA) programme for two years with over 35 Universities and nearly 40 Ambassadors engaged.  With the new Sport England strategy funding launching in the next 6 months, the Foundation is now looking to expand the programme for a further 4 years.

The HEBA programme focus’ on providing student volunteers with unique opportunity to develop skills and experiences to support their long-term career development. Previous HEBA's have gained a unique experience, insight and understanding of working in sport development and project management as well as experience in delivering sports activity and events.

The student volunteer is supported to grow and develop basketball with their university with the aim of the role to increase participation, develop a competition framework and a sustainable workforce in addition to linking participants and workforce into community basketball activity.

Each university will be supported to develop new participation opportunities, enhance current provision for students, along with workforce and volunteer development opportunities for the HEBA and wider student body. In addition to this the institution will be provided with kit and equipment to support the delivery. Following the success of the HEBA Programme, Basketball Foundation is now opening an expression of interest window for any universities that wish to be involved in the HE Basketball Ambassador programme for the 2017-18 academic year.

If an institution wishes to express an interest in recruiting a HEBA as part of the programme please send an email to Sarah Doyle at the Basketball Foundation (sarah@basketballfoundation.org.uk) with the following information:

- Institution Name
- Staff Member Details (Email and Tel No.)
- Summary of Current Basketball Provision
- Current Student Volunteer provision or programme  e.g. other similar NGB roles or internal volunteer scheme
- Why the institution would like to be involved in the programme
- Any other information you think might support the expression of interest

Resource and support for the HE Basketball Ambassador programme is limited, therefore the Basketball Foundation will assess each university based on the content on expression of interest.  The deadline for institutions to submit an expression of interest is Friday 3rd March 2017.

If you have any further questions or would like to discuss the HEBA programme please feel free to contact Sarah Doyle at the Basketball Foundation (sarah@basketballfoundation.org.uk / 07749727570) or Matt Holdstock at BUCS (0207 633 4992).
