British Universities narrowly defeated World Ranked 13th nation, Singapore, last night at Bellahouston Sports Centre in Glasgow after an exciting match which came down to the wire.

The Singapore side came out strong in the first quarter taking a lead in the first few minutes, but as the British Universities side settled down they pulled ahead to a 6 point lead. However the Singapore team came back at the students and led 11-10 at the first break.

There were no substitutions for the British team in the second quarter and with some superb possession play from Caroline O'Hanlon who fought for every ball, it was the British Universities team who lead at half time, by 2 goals.

Quarter three saw the introduction of Lisa Bowman (GS), Mel Curson (GA) and Frances Campbell (WD), which gave every member of the squad court time during the game. The substitutions were seamless as the British Universities team extended their lead by the end of the third quarter to 35-32.

The final quarter saw the British Universities players give one final push against a Singapore side becoming more determined and physical as the game went on. Rosie Barrett pulled off some outstanding interceptions, and alongside her English Universities team mate, Kate Bradshaw, the circle defence restricted Singapore to just 40 goals, to British Universities’ 44.

The British Universities squad captain, Andrea Magee said "We have had a great weekend and it is even better to finish it off with a win".
