BUCS Cross Country: The Weekend That Had It All! 04/02/2019

With many teams battling the elements to arrive on the start line, BUCS Cross Country Championships had a photo finish, face paint, brutal hills & more!

Despite an initial threat of snow to the event, the sun shone over host location Bicton College as 1,800+ students arrived for the renowned BUCS Cross Country Championships.

To start the day, the women lined up to complete a 6.2km route. With the likes of Loughborough's Jess Judd & Under 23 European Champion, Anna Møller of St Mary's in attendance, this race promised a hotly contested battle. Whilst Møller claimed the title, 11 seconds ahead of second place Amelia Quirk, Judd led Loughborough to a team victory having finished the race in 4th.

Next up, and arguably the highlight of the day, was the Men's Long race. Having placed 3rd in 2018, St Mary's Emile Cairess pipped Loughborough's Patrick Dever to 1st by one-tenth of a second, an uncharacteristic ending to any Cross Country race!

The final race of the day, the Men's Short Race, saw St. Mary's claim the full 1st place sweep thanks to a strong performance from Abdulquani Sharif.

To complete the proceedings for the day, BUCS welcomed 5 time Olympian Jo Pavey who led the medal presentations.
