British University Esports Championships - The Journey So Far 31/01/2019

Having launched in October 2018, the official university Esports body, National Students Esports (NSE), has grown from strength-to-strength upon the formation of the British University Esports Championship (BUEC)

As the first competition of its kind, the BUEC Winter term spanned over 8 weeks, engaging 3,000+ students, from 76 different universities to form 500+ teams. The competition used a knock out format whittling the teams down to 12, who would then face off in the Winter Finals at the Alt Bar in Nottingham. The finals were broadcast by aspiring student commentators working with experienced production staff from leading Esports companies.

The Winter Finals provided a wealth of excitement. As shown below, a key highlight saw Lancaster University defeat Loughborough University 4 – 1, crowning them Rocket League Champions. For a full review of the NSE British University Esports Championships Winter Finals, please click here.

With a growing competitive programme, fantastic prizes for students in each competition and the BUEC points table starting to take shape, we are set for another impressive competition. NSE have introduced seven different competitions under the BUEC, including the FIFA 19 NSE Spring Championship, providing students with more opportunities to compete throughout the spring term.
