Nottingham – 285 crews, an increase of over 100 boats, took part in the 2006 British Universities Rowing Head of the River.

Top honours were well spread about: Oxford Brooks still remain unbeaten in Men’s Eights, Durham showed good strength but Imperial impressed most, taking the overall Victor Ludourom along with nine medal places, seven of them golds. Newcastle, Bristol and Reading looked strong units too.

In cold and sometimes windy conditions some very close racing was enjoyed and Imperial were only a second up on Bristol in Men’s Coxed Fours, an event in which Plymouth took their first ever Championship Rowing medal, a bronze.

In the Women’s Eights Imperial were on the other end of a one second margin, losing out to Durham. The prestigious Concept 2 Freshers Challenge saw a dead-heat for top place between Manchester and Loughborough Men, but Nottingham moved top of the Freshers League.
