British Universities and Colleges Sport (BUCS) has confirmed an agreement with global digital identity platform, Yoti, to become the headline partner for BUCS Big Wednesday.

BUCS Big Wednesday powered by Yoti is the culmination of the university team sport programme, hosting 52 fixtures across the day. Throughout the year, weekly BUCS fixtures see some 6,000 plus teams compete in 800 leagues across the country. BUCS Big Wednesday will see 104 of these teams come together at the University of Nottingham to compete for Championship and Trophy Finals.

With 14 sports, the event is likely to attract hundreds of spectators from Nottingham and further afield, as BUCS showcase both a range of indoor sports, from basketball to squash, and outdoor sports including rugby league and football.

After a successful event in at the University of Bath last year, attention turns to the University of Nottingham and their new £40m David Ross Sports Village on University Park campus, an exciting venue to host an event of such magnitude.

As an organisation, Yoti are a perfect fit for BUCS Big Wednesday, providing a service to make it easier for students to prove their identity, stay safer online, and do the things they are passionate about. Yoti’s agreement with BUCS will provide them with a platform to deliver both digital and event based activations, ranging from giveaways to social media campaigns.

“Students can use the free Yoti app as a simple, fast and secure way to prove their identity, online and in person," says Robin Tombs, CEO, Yoti. "Our partnership with BUCS is a fantastic way for us to connect with students and make it easier for them to get things done and do the things they love. We are delighted to be the headline partner for BUCS Big Wednesday and we look forward to working with the team in the future.”

Vince Mayne, CEO of BUCS commented:

“We are excited to be working with Yoti to create the best possible event experience at BUCS Big Wednesday for our students, who are more technologically aware than ever. We can’t wait to see what the future holds for this partnership”
