Lift The FA People's Cup at The Emirates FA Cup Final 26/09/2017

A unique opportunity for your students to lift The FA People’s Cup at Wembley Stadium connected by EE on Cup Final Day

BUCS, in partnership with The FA, is delighted The FA People’s Cup returns to Higher Education providing an exciting opportunity for Institutions to deliver the magic of The FA Cup on their doorstep through the University category.

Students can live The FA Cup journey as they progress through local, regional and national rounds, with one male and one female team having the opportunity to lift the trophy on the turf of Wembley Stadium at The FA Cup Final. After a successful pilot of a Higher Education category in The FA People’s Cup 2017 with 37 institutions delivering first round competition, and over 2100+ students participating, we are seeking new institutions to come on board and celebrate informal and recreational participation on a regional and national scale. Last year our winners were:

  • Wockey FC, University of Sheffield - Higher Education Female Category
  • Filthy Fellas, De Montfort University - Higher Education Male Category

The University category is aimed at students who do not currently participate in football, or those that want to reengage in football as well as the recreational or informal player who does not participate in BUCS competitive football or futsal - in the female category, 2 BUCS players are permitted as we continue to support the growth of Women’s football. Other sports teams are also welcome to participate.

Lee Warren, BUCS Football Development Coordinator said “After a successful first year of delivery with 37 institutions, we are delighted that the University Category is returning to The FA People’s Cup giving the non-engaged, informal and recreational student a unique opportunity to compete in a national competition.

“Last year we engaged with over 2100 students, and The FA People’s Cup is all about providing a unique experience for those players. We saw the fantastic opportunities universities had through the competition, not only to play, but to celebrate student engagement and raise the profile of football, through national exposure with features on BBC Sport and The FA channels.”

Andy Dyke, The FA’s National Participation Manager said: “We were delighted with how many institutions we were able to engage with for our Higher Education category in last season’s FA People’s Cup. We look forward to working with further institutions this year and seeing even more students take part in the competition.”
