Game of the week: Men's football 24/02/2016

Each week we choose one game to focus on, and this week with the BUCS cameras in tow, we have an absolute belter lined up.

The University of Warwick Men’s Football Club’s First Team have enjoyed a great season so far. Coming into the New Year with a 100% record, Term One had seen Perry Campion’s team hit the back of the net 34 times, and concede just two.

It was a run of form that meant the battle to secure promotion from Midlands 2A was a two horse race. The team in hot pursuit were none other than local rivals Coventry, and the two came head-to-head in the opening game of the year. On that occasion Coventry prevailed, coming away with a hard-fought 2-0 victory, but having surrendered the one-point lead they had at the top of the table by dropping points away at UEA, the title is back in Warwick’s hands.

A win today would see the home team declared league champions, whereas a Coventry win would see them regain control of their own fate. Whatever happens, the two teams will meet again on Sunday for their Varsity game, so it is safe to say that they will know each other pretty well by the end of the week.

You can follow the game live by adding the game.oftheweek Snapchat account, which has proved to be an incredibly popular feature this year, and provides a really convenient way for people to stay up to date with the action.
