Varsity 2016: Warwick Vs Coventry 24/02/2016

For the past twenty-five years, The University of Warwick has battled it out against local rivals Coventry University in a Varsity series that represents the biggest event in both institutions sporting calendars. For all of those years, Warwick has remained undefeated, but this year with a slight change in format aimed at making the event more competitive, it promises to be a closely contested affair.

There is also one fixture which sets this Varsity aside from all of those that have gone before. With both institutions forging a fantastic relationship with Wasps, this year’s Varsity finale will see our respective rugby teams take centre stage at the Ricoh Arena, directly after the Aviva Premiership game between Wasps and Harlequins. This is an incredibly exciting opportunity, and one which has generated levels of excitement never seen before. With a ticket including access to both games, there is the very real possibility that the Varsity Finale will be played in front of thousands of spectators – let’s hope our goal kicker is good under pressure!

Tomorrow evening the Big Varsity Weekend kicks off with the ever-entertaining Ice Hockey fixture, which will set the tone nicely, for the three days of non-stop Varsity action.

With 31 fixtures spread over four days: the excitement is palpable, the campus is rife with Varsity talk and the wait is finally over. Varsity 2016 is finally here.
