Royal Holloway #TakeAStand 10/02/2016

As it is LGBT history month, we will be launching our first #TakeAStand campaign against LGBTphobia.

Throughout the month, we have an LGBT team – captained by our LGBT officer, Laura Lewis – going to different sports clubs training session to take part in the session from warm-up to skills and drills to finishing off with a small sided game against the club. After the session with Women’s Football last week, Laura had this to say; “Women's Football were so welcoming and considerate of our lack of sporting prowess! I'm so pleased that they are involved in our campaign and it was really fun to play with them.”

The aim of this is for the LGBT team to raise awareness of some of the issues and potential barriers the LGBT community may face in trying to participate in sport with the clubs.

Alex Reilly, Co-President Sports & Development & BUCS Student Director, has been working alongside Kiri Madhani at BUCS on the #TakeAStand campaign and was really pleased with how the session went: “It was great to see a strong turnout from the LGBT team, they played really well. I can’t wait to see what they can achieve when they take on our other clubs like rugby and squash!”
