The Welsh Varsity Challenge 21/10/2015

The Welsh Varsity Challenge is the biggest student event in Wales, and is the second largest of the British varsity games, behind Oxford/Cambridge.

Varsity sees Swansea and Cardiff universities competing in over 30 different sports, from basketball, rowing, golf, hockey and swimming, to fencing, squash, and Ultimate Frisbee.  Each year, thousands of students turn out for Swansea to support our teams and celebrate the day.

The competition culminates in a showpiece rugby match, shown live on S4C which takes place in front of a crowd of thousands at the Millennium Stadium in Cardiff or the Liberty Stadium in Swansea.

Many Swansea students have gone on to represent their countries and gain professional/semi-professional contracts with clubs on the back of great performances in the Welsh Varsity Match.

Previous teams fielded by Swansea University have included British and Irish Lions Captain Alun-Wyn Jones, and Welsh internationals Richie Pugh and Dwayne Peel. See the full story of 2015 here.
