The 2014 BUCS Deloitte Leadership Academy #BDLA 21/10/2014

BUCS is incredibly excited to announce that applications are open for the 2014 BUCS Deloitte Leadership Academy (#BDLA), which will take place this year in Herefordshire from 20-21 November.

The exclusive two day event, for 100 students across the UK, is being run in collaboration with our headline partner and sponsor Deloitte. It is designed to offer aspiring leaders involved in university sport a practical insight into skills that will positively shape their development and greatly improve employability prospects.  Participants should be prepared to get involved, be energetic, challenge themselves and even face a few fears. We don’t want to give too much away but it promises to be fantastic experience for all involved!

#BDLA Course Content

High performance teamwork.

Transferable leadership skills from sport.

Task management.

Understanding performance. 

The importance of networking, negotiating & influencing.

Instructors and Guest Speakers (subject to confirmation)

Martin Hewitt (GB skier and Adaptive Grand Slam Team Leader).

Heather Stanning (Olympic Gold Medalist - Rowing).

Joff Sharpe (Author, journalist, businessman and former SAS Officer).

Several leadership experts from sport, business and the military.

Accommodation

This year’s #BDLA is a two day event and students will stay overnight in a yurt village with all necessary amenities.

All food is provided and all dietary requirements will be catered for.

Expenses

Travel expenses (up to £50) will be covered in line with BUCS expenses policy. Additional expenses may also be covered in exceptional circumstances if dispensation is granted by BUCS.

Course qualification  

Each student will be issued with a certificate confirming attendance on the course.

Deloitte have accredited this year’s #BDLA through the Institute of Leadership & Management (ILM). On completion of the academy attendees will therefore be eligible for the ILM /Fieri Development Certificate in Dynamic Leadership. The qualification, if desired, will cost £48 and details will be given to attendees on completion of the course.

How to apply

To apply for a place on this years #BDLA you must be in a leadership position within a university sports club or a voluntary position supporting sport at your institution. Please complete the application form here and return to Jon.Brookstein@bucs.org.uk no later than 12pm on 03/11/14. Further information will be provided to successful applicants after this date.

Selection

Applications will be assessed by BUCS and Deloitte to identify the strongest leadership figures in university sport for this unique opportunity. Please note that those who attended the 2013 academy are not eligible for this year's event.
