The University of Cambridge is recognised as much for its illustrious sporting tradition as it is for its excellence in education, learning, and research. There is a vibrant and very varied sports scene at the University. A vast range of sports clubs and societies compete regularly in BUCS, local and regional leagues, and the annual Varsity Matches against Oxford. This is supported by a range of clubs, competitions and sports participation opportunities for students at the College level.

The Sports Service, Departments and Colleges also play a very important role in the provision of physical activity and wellbeing opportunities for students and staff such as yoga classes, running groups and dance activities.

The Sports Service is seeking to appoint to a new role of Assistant Director - Business and Operations. The role holder will lead the operations and business functions of University Sports Service in line with strategic priorities and income generation targets, including the effective management of existing sports facilities. As a member of the Senior Management Team, they will also contribute to the strategic direction of the Service and the development of new facilities, schemes and initiatives for the benefit of University students, staff and the wider community. The role requires substantial business and operational management experience and the ability to work in a largely autonomous manner within the regulatory framework, policies, procedures and expectations set by the organisation. The role holder will need to have excellent leadership, communication, team building and decision-making skills and the ability to develop and maintain effective stakeholder relationships both internally and externally. Budget management, strategic planning and project management skills are also essential to the role.
