All players are using the same competition and scoring format:

• Group stage involving two groups of four players followed by playoffs (1st/2nd, 3rd/4th, 5th/6th, 7th/8th)
• All players will play four matches in total across the day
• Each match is best of 3 games, first to 11 points (2 clear at 10 all)
• Loser to mark the following match

With such a tight schedule it’s important you’re ready to play 10 minutes before your start time.

With four matches to be played, it is strongly advised that you refuel small and often, keeping a bottle of water with you all the time and try to get some fresh air and proper rest when possible.

Public Transport: From Newcastle’s Central Station you should take the metro to West Jesmond. The club is a 5 minute walk from West Jesmond.

All players and spectators should ensure that suitable social distancing is taking place throughout the venue, especially in the viewing areas behind the courts. Anyone who is spectating behind the glass back (Court 1) should follow the 2m rule.

There is a maximum of 6 people around any table in the bar/lounge area. It is a requirement at the club that a mask is worn when inside the club house, unless seated at a table in the bar and lounge, or unless you are playing squash. The bar and café is table service only.

Please remember that, although the latest England Squash guidelines permits the use of shower and changing facilities, the changing rooms at the club are small and so efforts need to be undertaken to avoid overcrowding.

What’s new for 2020-21?

Like always, we are taking safety at our event seriously. After careful consideration regarding the current Covid-19 pandemic, the BUCS team have implemented the following measures to promote the health and wellbeing of competitors, officials, volunteers and staff.

We created these measures by:

1. Seeking advice from local authorities and National Governing Bodies regarding the current Covid-19 restrictions and recommendations
2. Collaboration with the host venues
3. Following of Government and NHS advice
4. Consultation with BUCS Chief Medical Officer

New Measures:

1. Event Disclaimer updated to include specifics around Covid-19
2. Limited entries to adhere to capacity restrictions
3. New event format of Regional competitions to adhere to current guidance
4. Staff members and volunteers interacting with competitors will be wearing appropriate PPE/face coverings
5. Covid-19 questionnaire completed 24 hours in advance of the event
6. Access to hand-washing facilities, or hand sanitiser
7. Increased signage on hand washing
8. No handshakes, high-fives and spitting
9. Extra cleaning and disinfecting of frequently touched surfaces and facilities
10. Medals will be available for collection at the event
11. Competitors must depart promptly after competition finishes – no hanging around post event

What’s expected of competitors:

1. Event competitors should stay home if they have any Covid-19 symptoms, live in the same household with someone with Covid-19 symptoms or have been diagnosed with, or suspected to have, Covid-19 in the past 14 days.
2. Competitors must follow direction from BUCS staff
3. Competitors must comply with temperature checks. Any competitor failing a temperature check will not be permitted to compete.
4. Competitors must complete Covid-19 questionnaire before competing
5. Competitors should always follow social distancing guidance
6. Competitors should ensure they are following hand hygiene practices at all times
7. Competitors should wear a face covering when indoors
8. Competitors should not share equipment at this time unless permitted within NGB guidance
9. Follow the guidance and safety procedures outlined for the event you are attending. These can be found in the Event Guide

Despite all these extra measures we have implemented, it is impossible to fully remove all risk.

The women's draw will be a round robin format.

Medals will be awarded for 1st, 2nd & 3rd place.

Parking: There is limited parking on site, however, weekend and bank holiday parking on the road is free.

Please see here for public transport provision in Bristol. The club is about a 50minute walk from the main train station, there is also a local train station in Redland which is a 5minute walk from the club. There are plenty of bus routes from the main train station to roads near the club.

Men’s and Ladies changing rooms are available to use. Please remember social distancing when using the changing rooms and be cautious of overcrowding.

Bar and catering services are available on site inside the club.

All visitors are asked to arrive no more than 5 minutes before the start of their activity. Entry and exit will be via the main reception of the David Ross Sports Village - please come straight through to reception and a member of the team will allow you through the gates to the squash courts.

Face coverings are mandatory in all University buildings and will be required when circulating through the facility (but not during physical activity/sport). Medical exemptions and hidden conditions apply.

All players should arrive with water bottles pre-filled and dressed ready for the activity where possible. Although access to water fountains and changing rooms will be possibly for general use and in-line with safety guidance in place.

The café will be closed – so pleased bring a packed lunch. 

Please adhere to all customer guidelines and safety protocols in place at the facility, if you are unsure or have any questions, please do ask a member of our staff who will be happy to support you.

Parking: There are no parking charges over the weekend, please do park in a marked bay and adhere to any guidance displayed.  A map of campus is attached with parking options immediately surrounding the David Ross Sports Village, on Beeston Lane and also by the falling halls of residences which are in close proximity: Nightingale Hall, Ancaster Hall and Cavendish hall.
