This year the Midlands Tournament returns to the Notts Golf Club - Hollinwell. The tournament is an Individual Stroke play competition over 54 holes, as well as a Mixed Team Stroke play event.

The BUCS Golf Tour was back in acton and saw Cheetam and Mollard win at the rain shortened Midlands Tournament.

Last week Notts Golf Club, in Hollinwell hosted the Midlands tournament. Originally scheduled for 54 holes over three days but mother nature had other ideas as heavy rain resulted in first the suspension and subsequently the cancellation of the final round.

Women’s Event

Emily Mollard’s (University of Exeter) strong play at the Stirling International continued at the Midlands tournament. She opened the tournament with a round of five under par, just two shots off the course record.

Mirren Fraser (University of Stirling) joined Mollard with the only other under par round on day 1 with a 2 under par round of 73. Mollard followed up her strong first round with the again the best score in round 2.

Men’s Event

The Men’s event was a much tighter affair. Richard Cheetam’s (Bournemouth) final round of 71 and a birdie on 18 took the one shot victory over Josh Martin (Nottingham) and two strokes better than James Wilson (Northumbria).

Wilson held a 2 stroke lead after he carded a round of 70 for 2 under par. Seven golfers were within 5 strokes heading into the second round.

The course was set up a little shorter for the second round which seem to help some players while bringing trouble into play for others. Two golfers, Josh Martin and Callum Denham (Loughborough) were able to equal Wilson’s two under round but it was Richard Cheetam’s from Bournemouth University with rounds of 73 and 71 who ended up at the top of the leaderboard.
