Chief Executive Officer
Karen joined BUCS after over 20 years of working in manufacturing business, specialising in change management, product development, marketing and sales. She holds a Masters degree in Sport and Leisure Management from Loughborough University, where she won the Sue Glyptis prize for best research project in 2005. She then spent two and half years at England Netball as its Commercial Director, where she secured a TV deal with Sky Sports and new commercial and sponsorship relationships for the organisation.
Karen is a Board member of Podium, A Trustee of The London Youth Games, a member of the Economic and Social Research Council Peer Review College, sits on the Leadership and Governance Group for Healthy Universities and the Higher Education Advisory Group for Sports Coach UK.
Head of Sports Programmes
Mark Brian has 17 years experience of university sport. He started with the organisation in August 1997 as a Sports Programme Manager and later taking on the role of International Programme Manager. Mark has now been Head of Sports Programmes since 2004 As Head of the Sports Programmes department, Mark manages a department of ten and is currently leading on the implementation of the Sports Strategy for BUCS.
Mark is a graduate of University of Teesside, with a post graduate diploma in Business and Leisure Management and managed the Team England Headquarters at the Manchester 2002 Commonwealth Games. He is a Governor at his local school and takes part in triathlons.
Head of Sports Development
Jon has been with BUCS since January 2010, when he joined as Head of the new Sport Development Team. Having worked previously in Leisure Management, Local Authority Sport Development and most recently in Rugby Development for the RFU he brings a breadth of relevant experience to the new team. With the new team in place to deliver the outcomes of the BUCS & Sport England Partnership Plan, Jon manages the relationship with Sport England and leads on BUCS development relationships with national partners and NGBs.
Jon is a Sport Science graduate of Coventry University, where he captained the University Rugby Club and 1st XV. He still plays Rugby Union (occasionally), Tennis (badly) and enjoys playing any other sport possible!
Head of Finance & Governance
Tim joined BUCS in early 2011 having spent 8 years in the NHS, most recently as Head of Primary Care & Corporate Finance at NHS Islington. Since joining Tim has taken steps to rationalise and improve the financial information and reporting systems and has made structural changes to the finance team.
As well as being a qualified accountant Tim is also an experienced accountancy tutor and still delivers lecturers and seminars around the subject when time permits.
In his free time Tim is a keen supporter of AFC Wimbledon.
Head of International Programmes
As Head of International Programmes, Neil is responsible for coordinating GBR teams to the biennial World University Games (Summer and Winter) and World University Championships, as well as monitoring GB entries into EUSA. Neil joined BUCS in July 2010 after 10 years of working in a variety of roles in University sport, most recently as Deputy Director of Sport at London South Bank University. Neil was a sports sabbatical at Goldsmiths following graduation in 00/01 and then at ULU in 01/02, and has also held a variety of voluntary roles in BUCS - including as GBR Team Manager for the World University Taekwondo Championships, National Team Manager for England Universities at BUCS Home Nations, and as Vice Chair and Snr. Vice Chair of BUCS predecessor body.
Susannah (Tay) Attwell
Head of Professional and Regional Development
Tay has been working in sport and leisure since 1992, initially as a manager in local authority facilities before moving to lecturing in the FE colleges and joined the HE sport sector in 2000 as Finance Assistant in the AU at Exeter University. In 2002 Tay was appointed as UCS Executive Officer and joined BUCS as Head of Professional and Regional Development. Tay has a BEd (Hons) in Physical Education and a Masters in Sport and Recreation Management.
Ed joined BUCS in August 2010 as the BUCS Franchise Sports Manager. Ed is a management graduate of Leeds University and has worked in rugby union with the Welsh Rugby Union, and joins BUCS after 5 years in rugby league working for Wakefield Wildcats in the Super League as Commercial and Marketing Manager. He is a keen rugby player, playing both rugby league and union and enjoys playing golf, snowboarding and travelling whenever he gets the chance.
Major Event Manager
Vikki Campbell (formerly Scott) joined the organisation in September 2006 following three years at sports marketing company, Navigator. She graduated from Northumbria University in 2003 in European Sports Management with first class honours. Vikki loves to ski and used to be a 100m and 200m sprinter before everyone got taller than her. Vikki went to the 2009 and 2011 World University Games as HQ Manager and loves to travel to international sporting events. In 2012 Vikki spent nine months on sabbatical leave from BUCS working at LOCOG in the Athletics Delivery Team
Matt joined the organisation in August 2007 as a Sports Administrator and has recently taken over the role of Event Coordinator A graduate from the University of Birmingham in Sports Management, Matt is a keen badminton player with experience setting up and running badminton events in his spare time. Matt went to the 2011 World University Games as HQ Administrator.
Having graduated from Loughborough University with a BSc in Geography in 2008, Jo then spent 6 months travelling the world before completing an MSc in Events Management at Manchester. After working for the event management company - Resources for Business Ltd in Macclesfield, and HelmsBriscoe - the world's biggest venue finder; Jo joined BUCS in March 2012 as an Event Co-ordinator. In her spare time she likes running, walking and skiing.
Francesca graduated from the University of Leeds, with a 1st class honours degree in Sport Science. She then spent 3 years working as a Sports Development Officer for Harlow Sports Trust, and Fusion Lifestyle, before joining BUCS in March 2012 as Sports Co-ordinator. Francesca is a keen football player and has previously spent summers coaching in the U.S. and France.
Daisy joined BUCS in March 2011 having completed an ESRC funded PhD in Cognitive Psychology at the University of Essex. She is a keen football player and runner. In her spare time she is learning different ways to fall over in the snow (otherwise known as snowboarding).
Nick joined BUCS as Sports Administrator in February 2012 from the University of Gloucestershire where he worked for 7 months in Student Services, dealing with Offsite Student Housing and Community Links. He is a University of Gloucestershire graduate of Sport Development and Business Management and was Sabbatical Sports Officer in 2010/11. In his spare time Nick enjoys playing Volleyball and is currently attempting to pick-up Lacrosse.
London Universities Sports Leagues (LUSL) Administrator
Hayley joined BUCS in October 2012 after graduating from Bournemouth University. Her degree in Sports Development and Coaching Sciences included a one year work placement, in which she travelled to New Zealand, combining her passion for sport and travel. In her spare time Hayley studies videos of footballing greats, in an effort to increase her lunchtime football goal scoring tally.
Digital Marketing Manager
Hannah joined the organisation in February 2006 as an Administrator, and is now the Digital Marketing Manager. She graduated from Kent University with a Masters in E-commerce marketing and an undergraduate degree in Business Administration. Hannah has developed and implemented the digital strategy at BUCS and developed the site from BUSA to the now established BUCS website - this includes project managing the new BUCScore fixtures system that is now in place.
Sponsorship Account Manager
Lou came to BUCS with a background in sports sponsorship, corporate hospitality and event management having spent fours year working at Saracens Rugby Club followed by a stint working on the Deloitte Ride Across Britain event. A graduate from the University of Birmingham, Lou is responsible for managing BUCS sponsors and commercial partners. When she’s not injured, Lou can be found running around the streets of London training for the London Marathon or getting muddy on the rugby pitch.
Communications and Marketing Coordinator
Justin joined BUCS in October 2011 after marketing roles with Essex Cricket Club and Colchester United Community Sports Trust. A Management of Sport graduate of Essex University, Justin is responsible for raising the profile of BUCS and our sporting events. In his spare time he can be found attempting to play football.
Sport Development Manager
Georgina Agnies joined BUCS as the Workforce and Volunteer coordinator in January 2010 from Fulham FC Foundation where she was a Community Sports Development Coordinator. Previous to that Georgina was Student Activities Manager at Royal Holloway. Georgina is a University of Plymouth graduate and is currently studying for a Masters in Sport Management and Leadership at UWIC and grew up on Guernsey. Georgina's role is centered around the relationships between NGBs and HEIs.
Sports Development Manager
Matt joined the organisation in March 2008 as the Football Development Administrator and became Club Development & Club Links Co-ordinator when the sport development team was formed in January 2010. His role focusses around supporting universities with the development of student sports clubs, intra mural sport, social participation and community club partnerships. A sports graduate from Durham University, Matt is also a keen club rugby player.
Sports Development Coordinator
Matt joined BUCS in November 2011 having previously worked as Business Support Officer at the County Sport Partnership in North London. His role is centred around supporting the development of university sports volunteering programmes and providing strategic support around student workforce needs in the sector. A sports graduate from St Marys University College, Matt plays football in his spare time and is a coach at a London based football academy.
Football Development Manager
Oliver joined BUCS in October 2011 having previously worked as Senior Football Development Officer for the Surrey County Football Association. Prior to this he worked in the 5-aside industry as General Manager for JJB Sports and Power league Fives. Oliver joins BUCS with significant experience in Football Development and will be using this to drive forward the BUCS Football Development Strategy with specific aims of increasing opportunities for students to play football and recruiting more volunteers to the game. In his spare time Oliver is a keen mountain biker and a seasoned skier.
Football Development Coordinator
Prathiv joined BUCS in October 2012 from Birmingham County FA having previously worked as Coach Education Officer. A graduate from the BUCS Football Futures programme Prathiv contributed over 300 hours volunteering while studying Sports Coaching & Physical Education at Anglia Ruskin University (Cambridge). Prathiv is also a current member of the FA National Game Youth Council and fulfils a roll on the group as Head of Admin & Social Media. Prathiv is an avid Leicester City fan, who also tries to play Football, Cricket and Golf from time to time.
Disability Sports Officer
David is the first national Disability Sports Officer to be appointed by BUCS and was previously employed by the English Federation of Disability Sport where he was Regional Manager for 7 years. He is a keen adventurer and since retiring from competitive athletics in January 2008 he became the first European with Cerebral Palsy to climb Kilimanjaro.
Claire joined the organisation in January 2004 as an Administrator, and in 2007 became the Development and International Administrator. A Sports Science graduate from Greenwich University, Claire is responsible for team logistics, for all BUCS representative squads travelling to WUGs and WUCs. Claire creates and manages the international databases for each games and is the key support staff for Neil Rogers, Head of International Programmes.
PA to CEO/ Office Manager
Claire joined BUCS in July 2012 following 9 years as business manager at Concept International. She is a graduate of the University of Southampton and enjoys playing cricket, currently with Catford Wanderers Ladies, supporting Wasps Rugby and travelling the world whenever possible.
Finance & Governance Manager
Marie has been with the organisation since 2000, working for six years as a Sports Programme Manager, since 2007 as Finance & Administration Manager and in 2011 moved over to Finance & Governance Manager. She works part-time (Monday and Tuesday in the office and on a Wednesday morning at home) and is responsible for supporting the Head of Finance & Governance. Marie is a former international swimmer and competed for GB at the World University Games in Sicily in 1997. Marie graduated from the University of Greenwich with a BSc.(Hons) in Sports Science in 1997 and is also a qualified fitness instructor & personal trainer, swimming teacher and massage therapist.
Lee joined BUCS in 2011 following several years across the public sector. A part-qualified accountant, Lee has taken significant steps to improve the administrative processes within the finance department.
