We have reached the point in the year when it is time to consider and celebrate the great successes of higher education sport. The BUCS awards nominations are now open across seven categories recognising the competition, participation, inclusion and international successes of this the 2012 – 2013 BUCS season. The awards celebrate the big names of university sport who have achieved Olympic and worldwide success but also the unsung heroes and the work that clubs play in the student experience.
This year sees the launch of a new award, Club of the Year which moves to recognise clubs that work to increase participation, inclusion and diversity in its membership. The Kukri ‘For the team’ award will remain to celebrate the performance end of the BUCS sporting spectrum and over the years has acknowledged, BUCS Champions, unbeaten seasons and international representation.
The awards open for nomination are as follows:
BUCS Sportsman of the Year
Celebrates the domestic and international success, and improvement of a current student competing in BUCS
BUCS Sportswoman of the Year
Celebrates the domestic and international success, and improvement of a current student competing in BUCS
Kukri ‘For The Team’ Award (Team of the Year)
Celebrates the domestic and international, success and improvement of a student team competing in BUCS
Student Volunteer of the Year
Recognises the student volunteer who has supported BUCS work across any number of competitions, domestic or international, performance or participation driven projects and programmes
BUCS Unsung Hero
Nominations for this award are for an individual that has worked tirelessly and without broader recognition to support student sport at any level
Club of the year
Recognises a club that has worked to increase participation, inclusion and diversity in its membership.
Outstanding Contribution to Higher Education Sport
This award celebrates a remarkable individual who has made a life time contribution to student sport and has been instrumental in supporting, growing and developing student sport.
BUCS would ask for members and students to consider nominating against the awards that can be found here. The closing date for applications is Sunday 2nd June 2013 (midnight) – late applications will not be accepted. The shortlist will be announced on Wednesday 12th June 2013.
The BUCS Awards Dinner will take place at Herriot Watt University, Edinburgh on Thursday 11th July and further information about this or the BUCS Annual Conference powered by Star Trac and in association with Endsleigh can be found here.
