About BUCS Water Polo
Teams compete in a league programme throughout the season from October to March. Each league is made up of four teams and institutions either play fixtures on separate dates or combine all fixtures into a round robin tournament on a single day. Each team’s position in the league pyramid determines whether they qualify for the Championship, Trophy or Shield knockout competitions. The Championship semi finals take place over one weekend with the winners progressing to the Championship Finals weekend which also includes the Trophy and Shield Finals.
Water polo has a dedicated Sports Manager, Competition Manager and Event Coordinator responsible for delivering the programme. The Sports Manager’s main role is to work with key partners to develop and deliver a strategy assisting the development of water polo within Higher Education. The Sports Management Group for water polo is made up of volunteers with an excellent knowledge of water polo and higher education sport. The group provides technical support to staff and assists with the delivery of the programme.
