About the BUCS Karate Programme

There is one Championship offered within the programme which forms part of the BUCS Championships. There are Kata and Kumite competitions offered within the Championships. Competitors take part in one of three Kata competitions dependent on experience whilst the Kumite competition is dependent on weight and experience.

Karate has a dedicated Sports Manager and Event Coordinator responsible for delivering the programme. The Sports Manager’s main role is to work with key partners to develop and deliver a strategy assisting the development of karate within Higher Education. The Sport Advisory Group for karate is made up of volunteers with an excellent knowledge of karate and higher education sport. The group provides technical support to staff and assists with the delivery of the championships.
