Stuart Wade, Sports Development Manager, Liverpool University
Stuart was born in Liverpool and played for Lancashire the under-19s cricket team and Merseyside schools at Football and Rugby Union. He also played Premier League cricket for Sefton Park Cricket Club from 1982 to the present day.
Stuart attended Warwick University graduating in German Studies. He spent his final year in Stuttgart playing non-league football for TSV Echterdingen in the Landesliga. Stuart was the sabbatical Sports Officer (1986 – 1987) starting an unbroken connection with university sport that continues to this day.
His university sport career started as Sports Administrator in the Guild of Students at Liverpool in 1987 and was appointed Sports Development Manager in 2006. This role involves managing a new sports development department including club sport, coaching, scholarships, club links, coach education and internal leagues.
In 1989 he was elected UAU Vice-Chair and became Chair in 1992. Stuart was the first Chair of BUSA (1994 – 1996). During this time he was also involved in the Cricket and men’s and women’s Football sports management groups. Stuart was a member of the BUSA Executive board (1994 – 2000) and in 2006 was elected as the BUSA Board Director for Marketing and Branding. He represented BUSA at the Universiade in Fukuoka, Japan in 1995 and also on the DCMS Scholarship Committee under the chairmanship of Sir Roger Bannister.
He is a lifelong Everton fan and a member of Royal Liverpool Golf Club which is also home to the university team. He is married to Helena, a Liverpool graduate and former junior Welsh Golf International Football International.
