Hosts & organisers for pilot Squash Regional Competitions sought
18/08/2011The BUCS Squash Sports Advisory Group has identified an opportunity to develop regional tournaments in the lead up to the BUCS Squash Individual Championships. The aim of this is to increase the number of competitive playing opportunities for higher education squash players whether they are in teams or not.
The aim for the 2011/12 season is to hold at least two tournaments at universities as a pilot. This will help us ascertain demand for future years which may enable us to embed a series of tournaments into the BUCS Squash calendar. The Sports Advisory Group recommends that the competitions follow the same format as the BUCS Championships with graded tournaments to offer competitive matches for a range of standards.
BUCS is looking for two university squash clubs to host and run these events during the first term. This is a great opportunity for student clubs to lead the development of the sport and gain valuable experience in running a competition.
The host club would be expected to take on all aspects of the event organisation including:
o Book all necessary facilities
o Coordinate all entry forms and take entry fees
o Produce the draw for the event
o Run the event on the day
o Produce results for the BUCS website
England Squash and Racketball have offered to support those hosting events offering advice and expertise as requested. In addition a member of the BUCS SquashSports Advisory Group will be on call to offer support and technical advice during the event.
If you are interested in hosting one of these events please contact Tom Gee at tom.gee@bucs.org.uk. The deadline for expressions of interest is Friday 30 September 2011.
