University of Worcester students selected for GB blind football team
29/06/2009Three footballers from the University of Worcester have been selected for the GB National blind football team.
2nd year Sports Studies student Keryn Seal, 3rd year Sports Studies student Aj Ahmed and Will Norman who works in widening participation at the University have all been selected for the B1 (total Blind) 5-a-side team who will play in the International Blind Sports Association (IBSA) European Championships in Nantes , France from 25 June to 5 July.
Two years ago GB were runners up at the tournament in Athens, Greece losing out to Spain so they are obviously hoping to go one better this time and win it! All players were part of the Paralympics games in Beijing, China last August when GB team came 5th.
The GB games in the tournament are as follows:
Monday 29th June - GB vs. Germany
Tuesday 30th June – GB vs. Italy
Weds 1st July – GB vs. France
Semi-Finals - Friday 3 July
Final - Saturday 4 July
BUCS wishes Keryn, Aj and Will the best of luck for the tournament and hope they have a fantastic experience at the Championships.
UPDATE: The team have won their first match of the tournament - defeating Germany 4-1.
UPDATE: The team have won their second group game against Italy 2-0 and therefore have already qualified for the quarter finals with one group game remaining.
