Participation the winner as almost 900 student rowers compete in BUCS PwC Indoor Rowing Championships
23/12/2011Almost 900 student rowers competed earlier this month in the 2nd year of the BUCS PwC Indoor Rowing Championships with 11 events held in a series around the UK from Edinburgh to Southampton.
All of the events were run and organised by Student clubs and many included categories over and above the BUCS Championship events - with some strong beginner and team events - meaning that overall numbers will have been even higher and certainly well above numbers for 2010.
Each of the local organisers had the opportunity to tailor their events to meet local demand and many have had local press coverage afterwards.
The medals for the Championship also covered the country with rowers such as Graeme Thomas (Manchester) and Georgie Hazell (Reading) setting the pace in the men's and women's events with Ben Mitchell (Nottingham) and Gemma Hall (Newcastle) leading the way in the lightweight events. Many of the medallists from the BUCS PwC Indoor Rowing Championships also went on to the GB Rowing Team assessment in Boston at the w/e and again put in some excellent timings.
BUCS would like to congratulate everyone involved with the series and also thank GB Rowing for providing essential guidance and for supplying independent adjudicators to the events.
