BUCS Endorsed Rowing - Lincoln Beginner's Head23/11/2011
On Saturday 12th November, De Montfort, Nottingham and Sheffield descended onto the River Witham to join University of Lincoln for the first University of Lincoln Beginner’s head. With races the same categories as BUCS Head of the River in February, it provided a useful testing ground for coaches and a first race experience for students that started rowing in September. Raced over two divisions there were wins for University of Lincoln; Men’s Beginner 8s,Women’s Beginner 8s and Women’s Beginners 4s and Nottingham University in Men’s Beginner 4s.
In all there were 124 competitors racing for the first time and the event ran smoothly without problems summed up nicely by Umpire on day Dan Smith- “It was a splendid day yesterday. I thoroughly enjoyed myself and the beginners certainly seemed to; though I suspect we educated as many spectating parents as we did rowers.”
Many thanks to all helpers and well done to all competitors.
