Just 24 hours after stepping off the plane NRL referee Matt Cecchin was back on the field as he took charge of Leeds Met University v Northumbria University in the opening round of the SRL Super 8 competition at Headingley Carnegie on Wednesday.

Surfers and spectators enjoyed a weekend of impressive waves and glorious autumn sunshine at Fistral Beach, Newquay for the 2011 BUCS Barefoot Wine Surf Championships. The competition was an outstanding success with record number of surfers taking part and representing Universities from across the UK. The competition is thought to be the biggest surfing competition in the world with over 366 competitors taking part over three days.

The SRL Super 8 season kicks off next week with reigning champions Leeds Met head coach Paul Fletcher vowing “we won’t relinquish our crown without a fight”.
